Kaduna PDP Condemns Arraignment and Remand of Chikun/Kajuru Rep Candidate, Campaign DG by the EFCC, Reaffirms Commitment to Secure Their Release

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kaduna State Chapter, is deeply distressed by the arraignment of its candidate for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, and her Campaign Director General (DG), Hon. Shehu Fatangi, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on September 10, 2025.

The party is particularly pained by the decision of the trial court to remand them in prison custody until September 15, 2025, despite the spirited efforts of our legal team to secure their bail.

This development once again underscores the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC) desperation to weaponize security and anti-graft agencies to harass, intimidate, and suppress the opposition in Kaduna State under the watch of Governor Uba Sani.

Recall that on August 16, 2025, we raised the alarm over a clandestine operation carried out by officers of Operation Fushin Kada, a security outfit of the Kaduna State Government acting on the orders of Governor Uba Sani. Our candidate, her campaign DG, and 25 others were forcefully abducted, while funds meant for logistics and agent welfare were seized in a desperate attempt to shortchange the PDP at the polls.

Although our candidate and the 25 others were later released following widespread public outcry, our campaign DG and the seized campaign funds were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS). Shockingly, the DG was paraded as a PDP agent allegedly involved in vote buying—even though he was arrested at a hotel facility serving as our party’s campaign secretariat outside the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.

Subsequently, Mr. Fatangi was transferred to the EFCC, where he was detained for several weeks. Mrs. Dawaki was also invited by the EFCC and detained for two days before being granted bail. Our legal team filed an application before the Kaduna State High Court to secure Mr. Fatangi’s release. However, before the application could be determined, the EFCC hurriedly arraigned both Mr. Fatangi and Mrs. Dawaki before the Federal High Court on charges of money laundering and alleged vote buying.

The PDP leadership in Kaduna State, led by Sir Edward Percy Masha, was in court to monitor proceedings and show solidarity before our candidate and campaign DG were remanded at the Kuje and Suleja Correctional Centres, respectively. We are making every effort to ensure their release on bail on Monday, September 15, 2025.

The PDP extends its deepest sympathy to the families of Mrs. Dawaki and Mr. Fatangi during this trying period. We assure them, and indeed all party faithful, of our unwavering resolve to secure their release at the earliest possible time. We trust in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and remain confident that justice will not only grant them bail but also vindicate them of all spurious charges.

ADAMAWA PDP STAKEHOLDERS MEET; YOUTH AT THE CENTRE

As preparations intensify for the 2025 party congresses, the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) brought together key stakeholders on Monday at the Government House, Yola, a gathering marked by gratitude, unity and a clear focus on youth empowerment.

In his opening remarks, State Party Chairman Barr. A.T. Shehu praised the strides the state has recorded under PDP leadership and thanked party faithful for their steady support. With a tone of humility and reflection, he noted that this could be his last time presiding over such a high-level meeting as chairman, a moment both poignant and forward-looking.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, speaking for the legislature, reaffirmed the Assembly’s loyalty to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and to the PDP, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms for good governance.

Representing National Assembly members, Senator Binos Yaroe commended the governor for lifting Adamawa’s profile through visible development and for attracting attention beyond the state’s borders.

Governor Fintiri described the meeting as a platform to celebrate and invest in the state’s youth. “This is our moment to uplift and promote the younger generation to greater heights,” he said, promising that his administration and the party will continue to prioritise youth empowerment through meaningful programmes and opportunities.

On the party’s internal calendar, the governor charged leaders to ensure smooth, transparent ward congresses scheduled for Saturday. He urged that the party field capable, committed candidates and consistently bring young people into decision-making processes at every level.

Speakers at the meeting repeatedly called for unity, discipline and a single-minded commitment to the party’s ideals as Adamawa prepares for the congresses. "Kaduna PDP Condemns Illegal Detention of Chikun/Kajuru Rep Candidate and Campaign DG, Demands Immediate Release"

The People's Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State Chapter, strongly condemns the orchestrated clampdown on opposition figures by the Uba Sani-led administration using federal security and anti-graft agencies. This blatant abuse of power and disregard for democracy will not be tolerated.

Yesterday, Monday, August 25, 2025, our candidate for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, was invited by the EFCC and subsequently detained without bail. This is in addition to the continued illegal detention of our party's Campaign Director General, Alhaji Shehu Fatangi, for 12 days in the same EFCC facility, despite meeting all conditions for administrative bail

Recall that the Uba Sani-led government, in a desperate bid to emasculate the opposition and rig the August 16, 2025 bye-elections, ordered Operation Fushin Kada—a security outfit of the Kaduna State Government—to raid a hotel that our campaign committee was using as its campaign office, abduct our candidate and other party leaders, and carted away our campaign funds meant for agents' logistics and welfare.
Our campaign DG was subsequently transferred to the Department of State Services and paraded as a PDP agent caught with money for vote buying before he was handed over to the EFCC.
This action is a clear demonstration of executive rascality and a shameless attack on democracy, reminiscent of the Hobbesian state of nature where might is right.

The PDP demands the immediate release of our detained members by the EFCC. Failure to comply will leave us with no choice but to take bold action, including mobilizing our members across the state to occupy the EFCC facility in Kaduna State. Meanwhile, we appeal to the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, to intervene before the situation degenerates to an uncontrollable point.

We wish to state emphatically that the PDP will not sit idly by while the government uses security or anti-graft agencies to intimidate and oppress its members. We are committed to defending democracy and the PDP in Kaduna State at all costs. We will continue to hold the government accountable while also defending the rights of our members and citizens at all times. This, I promise.
