Senator Ned Nwoko: A New Era for Delta State and the Anioma Agenda

Delta State, Nigeria – In a major political shift, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today officially welcomed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the party. This landmark event is expected to reshape the political landscape of Delta State and significantly impact the drive toward the creation of Anioma State.

Reacting to the Governor’s defection, Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) described the development as a historic turning point for the state and the Anioma people. He emphasized that the move brings renewed momentum, greater clarity of purpose, and strengthened unity among stakeholders determined to deliver real reforms and long-awaited development for the region.

“This marks a new chapter of possibilities for Delta State,” Senator Nwoko said. “We move forward with renewed strength, clarity, and commitment to ensure that the dreams and aspirations of our people are realized. The pursuit of Anioma Statehood remains a central focus, and today’s development reaffirms our determination to achieve it.”

Senator Nwoko, a prominent advocate for the Anioma cause and a leading figure in Delta politics, noted that Governor Oborevwori’s entrance into the APC family would further consolidate the party’s efforts to drive meaningful progress and offer the people a government that is inclusive, transparent, and development-focused.

Political observers view the Governor’s defection as a strategic realignment that could redefine the future of Delta politics ahead of upcoming elections. It is expected to galvanize APC supporters across the three senatorial districts and strengthen the party’s base in previously contested areas.

“The vision is clear,” Senator Nwoko added. “Delta State must rise to its full potential. We are committed to building a New Delta where every citizen, regardless of ethnic background, enjoys the dividends of democracy. The realization of Anioma State is not just a political ambition; it is a historical necessity whose time has come.”

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of Renewed Hope championed by the APC and expressed confidence that, with unity and purpose, Delta State would witness unprecedented growth and transformation in the coming years.

As the state absorbs the impact of today’s political realignment, many stakeholders believe that this new coalition will set Delta on a firmer path toward socio-economic advancement, while giving new impetus to the movement for the creation of Anioma State — a long-standing aspiration of the people of Delta North.

WORLD MALARIA DAY 2025: SENATOR NED NWOKO REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO MALARIA ERADICATION

As the global community commemorates World Malaria Day 2025, Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko has renewed his call for urgent and united action to eradicate malaria in Nigeria and across the African continent.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Senator Nwoko stated, “I am reminded of why I began the journey years ago to champion the eradication of malaria in Nigeria and across Africa. Malaria continues to kill our children, weaken our families, and slow down national productivity — yet it is preventable and curable. No child should die from a mosquito bite. No family should suffer the loss of a loved one from a disease we have the tools to defeat.”

This year’s theme, “Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World,” aligns with the senator’s long-standing advocacy. He emphasized that the fight against malaria requires collaborative effort, political will, and strategic investment. “As leaders, lawmakers, and citizens, we must act with urgency — by improving access to vaccines, supporting scientific research, promoting environmental sanitation, and investing in healthcare infrastructure,” he said.

Senator Nwoko also highlighted the strides made through the Prince Ned Nwoko Malaria Eradication Project, reaffirming his dedication to achieving a malaria-free Nigeria. “We must move beyond talk — it’s time for decisive action,” he declared.

In a passionate appeal, he called on fellow lawmakers, development partners, and citizens to stand together in the fight against malaria. “Let us end malaria in our lifetime,” he urged.

God bless Delta North.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

SENATOR NED NWOKO's STATEMENT ON THE DEFECTION OF DELTA STATE GOVERNOR TO APC.

A New Dawn for New Delta and Anioma Statehood

By Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko
Delivered as a personal charge to the Governor of Delta State

With your courageous defection to the All Progressives Congress, a significant chapter in our nation’s political history is being rewritten. *This moment is not just about shifting allegiances, it is about the bold possibilities now within reach. For the first time in decades, we have a real chance to restructure Nigeria’s federating units through constitutionally backed reforms that serve justice, equity, and true federalism.*

As Governor of Delta State, leading the charge among five PDP governors now aligning with the APC, you have stepped into a party reenergized and focused, *a party that has already begun laying the groundwork for bold constitutional amendments. Chief among these is the creation of two new viable states: Anioma and New Delta. Let me remind you, this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership long before your defection, a testament to the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalization.*

It now behoves on you to rise to this historic moment. The past must not be carried into the future. As scripture warns, “ *No one pours new wine into old wineskins.” Old habits, old politics, and the old deals that led to the gradual decline of the PDP in Delta must be left behind.*

Your defection must not be symbolic, it must be transformative. This is your opportunity to embrace a new sense of purpose and demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development. It is time to write the wrongs of the past.

Why This Moment Matters

The creation of Anioma State will finally give voice, identity, and institutional power to the aspirations of Delta North. It is a long overdue recognition of a people who have sought parity with their kinsmen.

The proposed New Delta will address the deep internal asymmetries within the current Delta State structure. It will empower neglected communities, bring government closer to the people, and unlock new paths for economic growth.

For the first time, the APC is armed with the numbers to amend the constitution. This time, we can fulfill these promises without demanding painful tradeoffs from the South. We are not lobbying from a place of weakness, we are standing firmly in a position of strength.

These changes are more than political. They are economic necessities. They are about focused governance, better infrastructure, increased federal allocation, and grassroots democracy. Two new states will mean two new engines of development.

Realignment Must Mean Responsibility

This is the golden hour for the South, and especially for Delta. Your move to the APC must be anchored in vision. Embrace the party’s progressive agenda. Lead the charge for constitutional reform. Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy.

Your decision to align with the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda will ensure that New Delta State, and Anioma is not left behind , but instead benefits immensely from the vast opportunities available at the centre.

Let us move forward, not cautiously, but courageously, with clarity and conviction.

Thank you.

The project, initiated under the Federal Ministry of Sport and executed as part of the Senator’s ongoing Constituency Development Projects, is designed to provide recreational and skill-building opportunities for the youth in the region. The facility aims to encourage talent discovery, social interaction, and community unity through sport and digital gaming innovation.

The contractor handling the project is Al Qibad International Limited, with Messrs Confetti Assets Ltd serving as consultants. The initiative is fully supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“This is about more than just football or gaming—it’s about creating platforms for young people to thrive, stay inspired, and stay productive,” Senator Nwoko stated.

Local residents and youths in Issele-Uku have welcomed the development with excitement, expressing optimism about the impact the project will have on the community’s social and economic landscape.

Construction is already underway, and the facility is expected to be completed and commissioned in the coming months.
