🚨🇳🇬 SENATOR NATASHA MAKES HER WAY TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AFTER HER CONVOY WAS STOPPED 🚨✅
Drama unfolded today at the gates of the Nigerian National Assembly as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, was denied entry by security agents, despite a court ruling in her favor.
Earlier this month, a Federal High Court declared her six-month suspension from the Senate “unlawful and excessive.” The court, however, did not issue a direct order for her immediate reinstatement, instead advising the Senate to revisit its disciplinary actions.
But today, as Natasha arrived in her official convoy to resume legislative duties, she was barred at the gate. Rather than retreat, the embattled senator stepped out of her vehicle and, flanked by civil rights activist Aisha Yesufu and her supporters, walked defiantly into the complex on foot.
🔴 The Senate’s position?
According to Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu, there is no enforceable court order compelling her return. He warned Natasha against “storming the chamber,” insisting the matter remains an internal legislative issue.
🔴 What’s at stake?
This isn’t just about one senator. This is about the balance of power between Nigeria’s judiciary and legislature, and how far elected officials can go to reclaim their mandate.
🧾 Natasha, for her part, has appealed the contempt and gag order issued by the court, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a cross-appeal to challenge the court’s jurisdiction.
Today’s events signal a bold statement from Natasha and raise an important question for every Nigerian:
> 👉🏾 Can a democratically elected senator be silenced by political manoeuvres—even in the face of a court ruling?
