Rabiu is my elder brother from Enabo in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, and I say this with full respect and without sentiment.
He had the privilege of representing Ankpa II in the Kogi State House of Assembly for eight years and even served as Deputy Speaker.
Leadership is a responsibility measured by tangible impact, not titles held. Let's check the facts objectively:
Enabo, his own community, still suffers from one of the poorest road networks connecting to Ankpa town and other neighboring communities such as Afor, Ofugo, Olufofo, Enelie and many more.
Our public primary and secondary schools remain in dilapidated condition.
Water scarcity persists, with no functional government borehole serving the community. Even previously executed projects with minor mechanical faults were left unattended.
If a leader cannot prioritize his own immediate constituencyโs pressing needs, on what moral foundation does he stand to criticize others who are currently striving to deliver results? Or compare them with people he failed woefully in office with?
In a functional democratic society, influence is earned through performance, not inherited through father's old legacy. The era of imposing leaders based on family history or past glory must give way to competence, accountability, and visible development.
The massive love and support currently enjoyed by the Chairman of Ankpa Local Government and other emerging leaders like Sumaila, Lawal Akus and others is not accidental. It is rooted in their demonstrated commitment to service, prioritization of public welfare, and measurable development efforts.
The people of Ankpa II are politically conscious. They are capable of deciding who represents them without external direction or entitlement politics. Leadership is not a hereditary right, it is a trust bestowed by the people based on performance and credibility.
Ankpaโs stagnation over the years is largely tied to politics of imposition rather than merit. That cycle must end.
This is not personal. It is about progress.
Ankpa is not a platform for compensating old political legacies. It is a constituency that deserves effective representation, transparent governance, and accountable leadership.
The people will decide and their decision must be respected.
In as much as I see no rational behind promoting rotational and inheritance politics over merit and competence in 2026, I also see no fairness in Rabiu Alfa talking down and comparing the visible hard work and efforts of the present Ankpa local government chairman in the person of Engr. Ademu Muhammed Yahaya to the immediate past chairman in the person of Ibrahim Abagwu whose only project was selling all the public properties of Ankpa local government and embezzled the money.
