*PRESS RELEASE*

RE: APPOINT DR. DANKAKA AS CHAIRPERSON OF FCC WITHIN THE NEXT 7 DAYS
..The North Will Not Be Subdued in Appointive Positions

The attention of Arewa Women for Good Governance and Leadership (AWGGL), an umbrella body of women in leadership positions and the private sector from the 19 Northern States and Abuja, has been drawn to the unethical, biased, unprofessional manner, and regional conspiracy against the North in the removal of Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

This occurred just days after her reappointment for another 5-year term was announced by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson to the President. Congratulations and jubilations poured in from across the region, including a congratulatory message from the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari, to Mr. President—only for the decision to be reversed hours later, replacing her with Ayo Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member from the Southwest.

In a press release signed by the National Coordinator, Hajia Hannatu Bilbis Muhammed, and General Secretary, Barr. Binta Yakubu Bello, the duo condemned the removal in its entirety, describing it as a ploy to malign, marginalize, and subdue Northern women, who are known as peace ambassadors. They called on every right-thinking Northerner in positions of authority under the present administration to be vigilant of government activities, rise up, and condemn this injustice against the region and Dr. Dankaka, in particular.

It will be recalled that Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, successfully completed her first tenure, transforming the Commission, despite a gang-up spearheaded by a former Southwest governor, who used federal commissioners from Osun and Lagos States to undermine her leadership. Recently, she was granted another 5-year extension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, only to be removed hours after the announcement—a move that sent shockwaves across Northern women due to its suddenness and regional undertones.

In a terse statement, the National Coordinator, urged the President to reinstate Dr. Dankaka, citing her tireless efforts for his electoral success in 2023. She campaigned vigorously across the 19 Northern states, mobilizing women and youths to vote massively for the Tinubu candidacy, while investing significant personal and family resources. The group called on Northern Senators, House of Representatives members, women, and youths, to join this clarion call, viewing the removal as a calculated conspiracy to deny the region its rightful representation, despite its voting power and population.

According to sources, Dr. Dankaka’s removal was orchestrated by a former Osun State governor and a Minister, with the active participation of another Southwest ex-governor who believes they can act with impunity under this administration without the President’s knowledge. The ex-governor in question is allegedly positioning allies in authority ahead of a planned return to office.

The AWGGL emphasized that every region is important, noting that the President’s victory was secured by collective votes from all regions, not just the Southwest. They warned against the lopsided allocation of lucrative appointments to the Southwest at the expense of other regions, stressing that this trend must stop immediately, if the President intends to retain support for the 2027 elections.

The group also highlighted imbalances in the Civil Service Commission (CSC), where Southwest officials dominate leadership, while the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation is from the South. The North, they argued, should rightfully head the Federal Character Commission to ensure equity, fairness, and justice, yet another Southwest appointee was named, further marginalizing the North.

The AWGGL leadership hereby calls on Mr. President, the First Lady of Nigeria, All women of conscience, to pressure the administration to correct this injustice and reinstate Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as FCC Chairperson. Failure to do so within the next 7 days, will compel the group to: Lead a protest march to the National Assembly, A*o Rock Villa, and other government organs. Demand that all Northern appointees resign en masse to amplify their grievances.

“Enough is enough.”

DJ CUPPY: I’m On My Knees! - Omoba Aigbegbele’s Passionate Love Plea to the Otedolas Shakes Nigeria

In a love saga that has set tongues wagging from Lagos to London, foremost activist, journalist, and human rights advocate Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele has turned his public proposal to billionaire heiress and music goddess Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, a.k.a. DJ Cuppy, into a full-blown national spectacle - this time declaring, with heart in hand and knees to the floor, that he is ready to devote his life to her.

Speaking with the fire of a man consumed by destiny, Aigbegbele, a mass communication scholar, multiple degree holder, and fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, confessed to journalists in Abuja:

“I am on my knees, pleading with my would-be in-laws, the Otedola family, to bless my proposal of love to their jewel, Ifeoluwa. I will woo her, adore her, cherish her, protect her, and prove that true, unshakable love still exists in this world.”

The declaration sent ripples through social media, reigniting the frenzy from his first bold proposal, a move that had shocked many when he demanded that Cuppy and her billionaire father sign a “submissiveness agreement”. But in a dramatic twist worthy of a Nollywood blockbuster, the fiery activist has now dropped all conditions, saying nothing will stand in the way of his love.

“Chief Otedola is a man of integrity, a family pillar, a believer in African tradition. I honour that. My heart is ready to adapt, because what I feel for Cuppy is real and unconditional,” he vowed.

According to Aigbegbele, his decision wasn’t made on a whim. It came after “critical thinking” and deep discussions with his family. He spoke of watching Cuppy for years, her resilience, her unmatched creativity, her dedication to her craft, the academics and recognising the solid upbringing that shaped her.

But the road to Cuppy’s heart has not been without drama. Since his proposal hit the internet, Aigbegbele says his phone has been on fire.

“From Abuja to New York, from London to Epe, the calls keep coming. Some congratulate me, some mock me, and some beg me to let go. But my friends in Lagos are even ready to storm Epe with kolanuts and palm wine for her grandmother as a sign of serious intention,” he said, grinning like a man already halfway to the altar.

He reserved glowing words for the Otedola patriarch:

“Chief Femi Otedola is a gentleman, a business titan, and a father who treasures his daughter beyond measure. I would be honoured to join such a family.”

In his closing plea, a cry that could melt the iciest of hearts, Aigbegbele called on Nigerians to rally behind him:

“Marriage is the oldest covenant of love. I am not chasing a fantasy; I am pursuing a future. Ifeoluwa is more than a star, she’s a cultural icon, a global ambassador of Nigerian pride. I’m not just in love… I am committed. And I am asking the nation to stand with me.”

Aigbegbele is also a Fellow of the National Institute of Credit Administration (F**A), Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Member, Nigeria Institute of Management (MNIM),Member, Institute of Security Studies (MIS), Certified Management Specialist (CMS), with Distinction in Time Management, and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).

Whether this will end in a fairy-tale wedding or the heartbreak of unrequited love, one thing is certain: Omoba Aigbegbele has written his name in the annals of Nigeria’s most audacious romantic gestures.

ACN Berates Oil Merchants for Orchestrated Protests Against Mele Kyari

…Urge Ojulari to Resist Pressure from Monopolistic Interests

The Amalgamated Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (ACN) vehemently condemn the ongoing smear campaigns targeting the immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Malam Mele Kolo Kyari. These attacks stem from his principled resistance against monopolistic practices by powerful actors in the oil sector seeking to undermine Nigeria’s economic interests for personal gain.

The ACN, a coalition of NGOs advocating for good governance reforms, economic justice, and anti-corruption measures across key sectors including energy, expressed its concern in a joint statement signed by Comrade Wale Adegoke, National Coordinator, and Comrade Musa Abdullahi, General Secretary.

According to the group, Malam Kyari’s commitment to transparency and competition during his tenure reportedly clashed with entrenched monopolistic practices. The ACN criticized oil cabals and unnamed entities for allegedly sponsoring protests and misinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing progress in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The group urged the media and the Nigerian public to carefully scrutinize narratives targeting public servants who are committed to reform. “We reaffirm our commitment to supporting policies that promote transparency, competition, and economic equity,” said Comrade Adegoke.

The group said the recent protests in Nigeria and abroad, allegedly funded by oil merchants, are designed to tarnish Kyari’s legacy and mount pressure on his successor, Mr. Ojulari, to succumb to the control of vested interests. Comrade Musa Abdullahi noted that all patriotic Nigerians must reject these malicious tactics including blackmail, misinformation, and character assassination, and stand firm against forces prioritizing self-enrichment over national progress.

The ACN emphasized that Nigeria’s economy cannot thrive without a level playing field in the oil sector. The current campaigns against Kyari and former NNPCL management reflect a desperate bid to revive monopolistic control, stifle competition, and reverse gains in transparency and efficiency. Under Kyari’s leadership, the NNPCL achieved unprecedented milestones, including refinery revitalization, reduced fuel prices, and international recognition from OPEC, the IMF, and the World Bank.

“These reforms align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Buhari administration’s legacy,” said Comrade Adegoke. “The progress achieved under Kyari’s leadership must not be eroded. We call for accountability and fairness to ensure Nigeria’s energy sector thrives.”

The group warned that the threat of economic sabotage remains real. “For decades, Nigeria’s oil sector has been plagued by greed, incompetence, and lack of competition. The same actors now orchestrating protests in London and Abuja are responsible for sabotaging refineries, promoting fuel import dependency, and obstructing local productivity,” said Comrade Musa Abdullahi. “Kyari’s management broke this cycle, delivering functional refineries and operational stability, achievements these groups seek to erase.”

The statement further emphasized that eternal vigilance is needed to safeguard Nigeria’s oil sector from bad-faith actors. Stakeholders must prioritize national interest over personal gain.

The ACN strongly condemned the so-called protests, describing them as rented crowds deployed to intimidate Kyari’s successor and destabilize the sector. “We stand against tyranny and warn against tolerating these tactics,” said Comrade Adegoke.

The group called on the government and the public to safeguard reforms protecting Nigeria’s refineries and economic sovereignty, investigate and prosecute individuals behind these smear campaigns, and support ethical leadership resisting pressure from monopolistic cartels.

The ACN reaffirmed its commitment to defending Nigeria’s economic interests. Comrade Musa Abdullahi stressed that eternal vigilance is the price of preserving the gains made under Kyari’s tenure. “We stand with leaders who prioritize national progress over private profiteering,” he said.

In conclusion, the group condemned the use of unsubstantiated allegations, character attacks, and foreign-sponsored protests targeting Kyari and his former management team. “We condemn these antics in their entirety and call on Nigerians to open their eyes to the truth for democracy and national progress to thrive,” said Comrade Adegoke.

CWAI Applauds NITDA As Dev’t, Regulatory Agency that Encapsulates Other Sectors

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) established by the NITDA Act of 2007 to regulate standards, guidelines and frameworks for the development and standardization of Information Technology practices in Nigeria, is also clamouring for the actualization of the Bill at the National Assembly for the last five years (since 2021).

The NITDA Bill, first proposed in 2021, seeks to repeal the National Information Technology Development Act No. 28 of 2007, and enact the National Information Technology Development Agency Act.

The amendments in the proposal include provisions for new license categorizations, licensing fees, 1% profit-before-tax levies for companies with revenues higher than 100 million naira, and prison sentences for defaulting parties.

In 2022, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) considered the Bill and moved a step further for its entry to the National Assembly. On December 23, 2022, at the National Assembly, a public hearing was held where stakeholders in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem weighed in on the Bill.

Since its announcement that year, the Bill has generated a healthy amount of controversy surrounding its purpose and compatibility with other technology-related bills, most notably the recently proposed startup bill.

Among the various submissions at the National Assembly are that Section 6(a) of the existing Act provides that NITDA is both a development and regulatory agency in the ICT sector.

However, the argument that NITDA is not a regulator was noted to be incorrect, and a total of thirty-one (31) stakeholders made submissions and presentations on the Bill. But out of this number, seventeen (17) were in support of the Bill, while fourteen (14) were opposed to it.

Those in favour based their support on the reason that the Bill provided for the development of the measures that would adequately regulate digital infrastructure, fast-track Nigeria’s transition into a leading digital economy, foster innovation and creativity, empower businesses in the country, improve the process of issuing and authenticating good character certificates and promote the use of technology in education and other sectors.

The Committee recommended to the Senate that the Bill be passed after considering the comments and opinions of stakeholders therein. The Bill states that the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security was referred to as “A Bill for an Act to Repeal the National Information Technology Development Agency Act No. 28, 2007 and Enact the National Information Technology Development Agency Act to provide the Administration, Implementation and Regulation of Information Technology Systems and Practices, as well as the Digital Economy in Nigeria and for Related Matters, 2023 (SB1082), having considered the same, report favourably thereon recommended that the Senate pass the Bill as amended,” as stated in the Committee’s report during the second reading.

There was no time that the Bill was meant to usurp the powers of other regulators and make NITDA a super regulator in the ICT industry. A lot of stakeholders also said the Bill has the potential to reverse the gains delivered and made in the digital economy already. However, some stakeholders, on the other hand, agreed that the Bill has a lot of merit and that it would sanitize the industry and bridge the knowledge gap between Nigeria and other developed nations in digital economy.

The Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI), a civil society organization that champions accountability, good governance and transparency in Nigeria, believes that the Bill, if passed into law, has the enormous positive impact to the telecommunication and ICT industry in Nigeria, as it will ultimately lead to increase in the confidence of both local and international investors in the telecom and ICT sector of the Nigerian economy, thereby transforming the development agency to a regulator which will enhance the activities of other sectors concerned like the banking, financial services, insurance, healthcare, commerce education, agriculture, telecommunications, etc.

The role of NITDA under the proposed Act would have no direct conflicts with other regulators in the industry as being canvassed by naysayers. Accordingly, NITDA 2022 Bill will stabilize the regulatory environment in the telecom sector in Nigeria and attract the much needed foreign direct investments as well as domestic investments in the telecom and ICT sector in the country.

In a press release signed by the Executive Secretary of CWAI, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, he asserted that from their investigation, the Bill seeks to enact an Act that will empower NITDA to provide for the administration, implementation and regulation of information technology systems and practice in Nigeria, which will automatically transform NITDA from a mere development agency to a regulatory agency in the sector that needs all the support, cooperation of Nigerians and stakeholders.

It is the first of its kind in the annals of history that will bridge the digital knowledge base of the country and impact the growth of the sector holistically in all spheres. The statement further added that the essence and purpose of the Bill is to create an effective, impartial, and independent regulatory framework for the development of the Nigerian information technology sector and digital economy.

Having been convinced about the proactive essence of the Bill, CWAI categorically states that the proposed NITDA Bill is focused on tax startups and in Part VI, Section 16, the Bill provides for the creation of the NITDA Fund, which will be used holistically for the “advancement of digital economy and related purposes,” and nothing more.

CWAI also notes that the skills deficit in human capital that hinders the country from thriving in the global digital economy would be overcome once and for all, as well as this would raise global digital competence in the country in the future, thereby expanding the service sector.

In view of this, CWAI enjoins the tech-ecosystem and techpreneurs to raise their voices and join the clarion call for all hands to be on deck for Nigeria to be able to achieve a large value chain that facilitates youth engagement, entrepreneurship development, the MSME development and women empowerment; which will provide and empower a rich, vibrant local industry of digital training providers with globally recognized standards attainable that can best compete anywhere. Therefore, recognizing and giving NITDA the required stakeholders’ support and engagement to drive this new initiative that will make the actualization of the Bill possible and acceptable to all.

CWAI therefore recognizes that NITDA has consistently driven an information technology policy that is geared towards the enhancement of Nigeria’s global acceptability and certification in the digital economy, where the country’s local, foreign partners and stakeholders are carried along in an effective, efficient and affordable value chain for the growth of the ICT sector and the telecom industry, creating and empowering Nigeria’s digital potentials and creating jobs for millions of youths in the country and the economic diversification for emerging technologies.

CWAI is holistically in support of NITDA’s drive, innovation, and ideas in the formulation of digital policies that will put Nigeria on the global arena and marketplace of the future. CWAI, therefore, advocates for NITDA’s regulatory status so as to accelerate other growing sectors of the economy.
