A recent diplomatic move involving Mali reveals something deeper than headlines.
Following military sanctions and pressure tied to re-entering bilateral security arrangements, Mali reportedly made one thing clear:
Any serious negotiation must be addressed to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) — not to Mali alone.
The AES — bringing together Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger — is signaling a shift in posture:
No more isolated bargaining.
No more fragmented pressure.
Engage us as a bloc.
That is strategic maturity.
Because in geopolitics:
• Fragmented states can be pressured
• United blocs must be respected
• Isolated negotiations weaken leverage
• Coordinated positions strengthen bargaining power
Unity increases leverage.
When nations align:
• Small markets become major economic forces
• Separate militaries become strategic deterrence
• Divided diplomatic voices become negotiating authority
• Vulnerable states become indispensable partners
Mali’s insistence on bloc-level engagement proves something important:
Africa negotiates differently when it negotiates together.
If this posture expands across regions, the implications are significant.
Before we even talk about the future —
One continental president.
One coordinated military command.
One shared currency.
One harmonized economic framework.
The foundation must be cohesion.
Unity does not erase diversity.
It organizes power.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré remains a captain—by rank, by pay—while promoting his colleagues to the rank of generals, men who now officially outrank him, even as he serves as Head of State.
That is not normal.
And that is precisely why it matters.
In a world where authority rushes to crown itself, he chose restraint. Where titles are often used to secure ego, he used them to strengthen institutions. He separated function from vanity, leadership from decoration.
It quietly teaches a dangerous lesson to corrupt systems:
that command does not come from stripes,
that respect is not issued with insignia,
and that authority rooted in discipline and integrity doesn’t need inflation.
When a leader can elevate himself—but doesn’t—
he exposes how hollow many titles really are.
Strange? Yes.
But history is usually rewritten by what first looks strange.

A toddler learning to walk falls. One looks up to their parent for help and waits to be lifted. Another falls, but summons courage and strength from within to stand on their own.

At the end of the day, the parent is proud of the one who stands, not the one who cries for help. The one who stands grows stronger and becomes independent. The one who always cries remains dependent.

Even God, like a parent, would be proud of those who look within themselves to change their lives, rather than constantly pleading for intervention.

This lesson is not just about toddlers. Most people, if given the choice, naturally prefer to believe in and look up to a God outside themselves—praying, hoping, wishing for their lives to be turned around.

Compared to discovering God within, where the responsibility to transform their own lives rests entirely on them.

A Carpenter once said figuratively: “The Kingdom is within you.” Many agree with this theologically, but in practice, most are far behind.

The closest place to find God is NOT OUT THERE BUT IN HERE. So get up!

The Creator of the universe has a unique way of doing so much with so little.
Nothing He created simply appeared overnight—everything evolved gradually and multiplied over time.
There is patience, order, and dedication in the works of our Father.
And if we are truly made in His image, then we ought to reflect the same patience and intention in our own work.
