I thought I was going to d!e
It sounds dramatic, but that night, lying on my bed with my body on fire and my head pounding like a drum, I genuinely thought that was it for me.
Earlier that day, I slipped in my bathroom.
It wasn’t anything “serious.” At least, that’s what I told myself. You know how we Nigerians can be…you fall, you stand up, you dust your body and say, “I’m strong jare.” I laughed it off. My waist hurt a little, my head felt somehow, but I convinced myself it was nothing. I didn’t even tell anybody. I just continued my day like a superwoman.
Big m!stake.
That night, I slept thinking I was fine.
A few hours later, I woke up feeling strange. My body was hot… not normal hot. The kind of heat that makes you feel like someone lit fire inside your blood. My skin was burning. My head was spinning. My bones felt like they were breaking one by one. I tried to stand up, and the room turned upside down.
That was when fear entered.
“God, what is happening to me?”
The small fall I ignored suddenly didn’t look small anymore. My temperature kept rising. I was shivering and sweating at the same time. My heart was beating fast. I couldn’t even explain the weakness. It felt like my body just gave up overnight.
In that moment, plenty thoughts entered my head. What if I had internal injury? What if I faint? What if I don’t wake up again?
I started praying seriously. Not the normal “thank you Jesus” prayer. The desperate one. The kind you pray when you realize you are not as strong as you think.
That experience humbled me.
Sometimes we ignore signs. Sometimes we downplay pain because we don’t want to look weak. But I learned that day that your body whispers before it screams. And when it screams, you’ll wish you listened earlier.
I’m sharing this because someone might be ignoring something right now… a fall, a pa!n, a symptom. Please don’t.
Health is not something to form strong for.
I really thought I was going to d!e that night… but God gave me another chance to rest, to heal, and to be grateful.
Please take care of yourself. Your life is precious ❤️
