We will challenge Jonathan's eligibility in court if he joins 2027 presidential race~ Presidency

โ€ŽSpecial Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement on Monday, dismissing recent remarks by Professor Jerry Gana, who suggested Jonathan could return on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform and defeat Tinubu.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽOnanuga said: โ€œJonathan reserves the right to run if he wishes. President Tinubu will wholeheartedly welcome him if he decides to enter the race.
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œBut Jonathan will have his date in the court of the land on his eligibility and his encounter with the people over his dismal record.โ€
โ€Ž
โ€ŽBy contrast, Onanuga said Tinubu has stabilised the economy, reformed fuel and forex policies, grown GDP by 4.23% in Q2 2025, reduced inflation to 20.12%, and restored investor confidence.
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œThe nation has turned the corner. The PDP broke the economy; President Tinubu is fixing it,โ€ he said.

ASUU Issues Fresh 14-Day Strike Notice To FG

By Abulu Osemuaghu

The Academic staff union of universities, ASUU plans to embark on an indefinite strike, and has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria as stipulated in the trade unions act.

The union announced the decision following a National Executive Council meeting held on Sunday at the University of Abuja.

In a notice of strike signed by the National president of ASUU, Chris Piwuna, the union decried the neglect of the university system and the governmentโ€™s consistent refusal to attend to its demands.

ASUU said apart from engagement with the press, in August 2025, its members in both federal and state universities held rallies, carrying placards, on their campuses to press the government to address the lingering issues in the university system.

ASUU argues that nothing came out of all the rallies and pleas, and that what is clear for now is that both the federal and state governments have a strong habit of paying little or no attention to the education sector in general and the welfare of university academics in particular

It, however, stated that if at the end of the 14-day ultimatum, the Federal Government fails to address these issues, the union may have no option but to, first, embark on a two-week warning strike and thereafter, a total and indefinite strike.

For the benefit of doubt, the issues in contention include the following: re-negotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, sustainable funding of our universities, revitalisation of universities, victimisation of our colleges in LASU, Prince Abubakar Audu University, and FUTO.

Other issues are the outstanding 25 to 35 percent salary areas, promotion arrears for over four years, and third-party deductions.

Bird strike: Zulum distributes food items to 18,000 families in Dikwa
35,000 women get N350m, clothing materials

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has distributed food items to 18,000 heads of families in Dikwa town, located in the central part of the state.

The distribution took place at the outer premises of the Shehu of Dikwaโ€™s palace.

Dikwa town was affected by a bird strike, a massive invasion of quelea birds and other pests that destroyed most of the farmlands on which over 90 percent of the community rely for their livelihoods.

Governor Zulum, who oversaw the distribution on Monday, expressed a deep concern for the affected families.

He explained that the intervention was necessary to avert a food crisis and provide immediate relief to those whose livelihoods were destroyed.

Zulum stressed that his administration implemented measures to strengthen agriculture, particularly mechanisms for pest control, mitigating cases of farmers losing their outputs.

โ€œThe last time we distributed food items in Dikwa was about 18 months ago. Because we believe there is an improved security situation in the state, and people have started cultivating their farmlands, we have reduced the distribution of humanitarian support by 90 per cent,โ€ Zulum stated.

He added, โ€œBut this morning, we came to Dikwa to support them because of the drought that affected them last year. The invasion of pests and quelea birds affected their farmlands, leading to the farmers losing a significant portion of their farm outputs.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Governor Zulum expressed delight in the residents' engagement in farming activities this season.

The governor also distributed over N350 million to 35,000 women in Dikwa town as part of his administrationโ€™s emergency relief to the vulnerable communities.

Each of the 35,000 women received N10,000 cash and a wrapper in addition to the two bags of rice and sorghum each received by the 18,000 male heads of households.

The governor was accompanied to Dikwa by the chairman of the Borno State High-Powered Committee for the Distribution of Palliatives, Engr Bukar Talba; a member representing Dikwa at the State House of Assembly, Zakariya Mohammed and the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele, among other senior government officials.

Court Proceedings Stalled in Egbetokun Cybercrime Case, Sowore Reacts

The scheduled hearing at the Federal High Court today in the case involving Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on alleged bogus cybercrime charges, was stalled following the absence of the presiding judge, Justice M.S. Liman.

This marks the fourth consecutive time Justice Liman has failed to sit on the matter, further delaying proceedings.

Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who was present at the court, condemned the repeated adjournments, describing them as a deliberate ploy to frustrate justice.
