The Flame of Peace has been burning in Hiroshima, Japan, since August 1, 1964.

The flame burns as a monument to remember those who, directly or indirectly, were victims of the first atomic bomb dropped by the United States in Japan during World War II.

The attack happened on August 6th 1945, and the victims number up to 140,000.

The flame isn't just meant to burn in honor of these victims. The flame will keep burning, and can only be extinguished once all nuclear weapons on the earth have been eliminated.
