3 THINGS YOU MUST DO BEFORE FASTING 🍽️
If you want to engage in a consecrated fast, there are three important things you must do.
1. Define Your Purpose
Before you begin, decide why you are fasting and write it down. What is your goal? What are you trusting God for? A consecrated fast is not simply about abstaining from food or losing weight—it is a spiritual exercise with a definite purpose.
Be clear about what you want to achieve. Write it down and keep it before you throughout the fast.
2. Decide the Type and Duration of Your Fast
Determine the kind of fast you will undertake and how long it will last.
Will it be a three-day fast, a seven-day fast, or a twenty-one-day fast? Will it be a vegetable fast, a partial fast, or a water fast?
Once you have decided, commit yourself fully to it. Don't keep changing the terms of your fast midway. If, for any reason, you break the fast, make up for it by adding extra days if necessary. Also, choose an environment that will support your consecration and help you stay focused.
3. Depend on the Holy Spirit for Grace
The moment you begin a consecrated fast, expect opposition. The enemy does not want believers to grow spiritually or enter deeper dimensions of the supernatural.
Just as Satan came to tempt Jesus during His fast, you may also face temptations and distractions. Your flesh will fight back. You will suddenly realize how accustomed your body is to comfort and routine.
This is why you must ask the Holy Spirit for grace and strength. Depend on Him for the enablement to finish your fast successfully.
If you follow these three steps—having a clear purpose, choosing your type and duration of fasting, and relying on the Holy Spirit for grace—you will not only complete your fast, but you will also experience its spiritual results.
