IGEDECRACY 016: SENATOR ABBA MORO'S EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE
Senator Abba Moro is a household name in Nigeria, a senator representing Zone C
Senatorial District of Benue State and the Senate Minority Leader.
I salute the emotional resilience of the Senator and his fatherly disposition to
attend to visitors in his home at Otukpo; even when some are not only unnecessary, but a mere duplication with flimsy purposes or agenda. Senator Moro, accept my heartfelt thanks for
your emotional flexibility, tolerance and good spirit.
I watched with utmost embarrassment the multiple and non collaborative visitation or engagements that is all about visibility or competition done by different
youth bodies of Igede extraction to the Distinguished Senator recently. The Igede Youth Congress worldwide, The Omyi nya Igede Youth as umbrella body of
the youths and The Greenlight Movement. During one of the visits, it was discovered, he was simultaneously hosting a Trade Union from Igede on a
solidarity visit. Waoo, it was a flexing galore, an evidence of a divergent people.
If I am Senator Moro, few concerns will be ringing in my mind:
a. Are these different set of people not from same Igedeland?
b. What exactly do they want apart from identifyingwith me for the purpose of bringing to Igede land dividend of democracy?
c. Can’t they make it one visit?
d. The first set said, they are coalition of
different youth bodies, while the second one is umbrella body. Just a semantic spin.
e. The other day, it was Greenlight Movement. Don’t they know that some stakeholders and leaders of thought in Igede land visited
to discuss power rotation and the arithmetic around 2027? Or are they at variance with that team and their agenda?
f. Are they not the same people clamoring for powerrotation and are aligning with Apa/Agatu/Oju/Obi and fronting Ozigizaga?
g. Do they really know what they want as a people?
h. Don’t they know that a senator's time is a
scarce resource, and each unnecessary visit is a distraction from his focus on critical legislative matters?
i. How I wish the Igede people will understand that we have 9 Local Governments in Zone C with able youth groups.
j. How I wish they desist from practice of visiting for the sake of personal visibility or to compete with peers. Or how many times
do they want me to repeat myself about my concern and effort for Igede land? Or do they think visitation is a catalyst?
k. Do they really want the rotation of power or they only want to identify with me or are they IGEDE-ISCARIOT.
Thank goodness, am not the Senator and so my thinking may be null and of no effect. I think is high time Igede youths learn to cooperate and build their political network rather than destroying their societal worth.
While engaging with our elected representatives is a fundamental aspect of democracy, it is crucial to reflect on the motivations and purposes behind these visits. The dangers of superficial engagement without a substantive reason dilutes the
significance of such interactions. These visits should be about addressing community issues, seeking support for initiatives, or discussing policies that
affect our lives. Even if that is what took you there- why the split? The desire for personal visibility and competition among peers can lead to misguided priorities.
While we must encourage organized forum where young people can express their concerns, propose solutions, and engage in constructive discussions with our leaders. We must also ensure that our voices are heard in unison and in a
manner that is impactful and respectful. By doing so, we can elevate Igede community and ensure that our interactions with our elected officials are not
only meaningful, but also conducive to the growth and development of our dear land.
If there is a need to apologise for the write up, I will happily do; not because I may be wrong for holding a mirror in the face of our youths, but for holding it in the public.
