As we mark and celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, may we keep in remembrance the true meaning of this holiday. More importantly, let us always strive to conduct our daily lives in accordance with the clear and beneficial message of this occasion. May I use this moment of gratitude to extend my sincere greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world as well as to people of other creeds and faiths.

For His munificent blessings and abiding love for humankind and for assuring us that good shall always triumph over its opposite, we give utmost thanks and express profound gratitude to Almighty Allah SWT. Eid reminds us to place our faith in the compassion and wisdom of Allah and to be obedient to His instructions as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. By his action, Prophet Ibrahim demonstrated true Islam and submission to Allah. Prophet Ibrahim understood that the ways and commands of Almighty Allah SWT are supremely more life giving and enlightening than the ways of man.

Thus, as we celebrate Eid, let us use this moment to rededicate ourselves to greater adherence to the spiritually-enriching commands of Almighty Allah SWT. We must show the true spirit of Islam in our lives and not just on these special holidays. The holidays are given to us not merely as special moments to celebrate, but as kind reminders to strive as we must to become the people and nation we are meant to be.
We face stiff challenges as a nation. Most troubling is the spate of violent attacks on innocent Nigerians. We must take a stand against terror and injustice. These evils lie forever outside our faith. Those who perpetuate such inhumanity do so in opposition to Islam and all that it means.

To be true Muslims is to adhere to the principles of peace, tolerance, justice, and charity. Our faith asks us to stand against those perpetrating evil and visiting untold misery on others. And we must remain forever obedient to the kind and life-affirming principles of our faith.

Yes, there are those who seek to bring this nation and Islam into disrepute through their destructive and violent actions. They seek to pit brother against brother, neighbour against neighbour, and religion against religion. They want to break the peaceful order of society. But Allah has placed us here to build a better Nigeria by taking care and seeing all of its inhabitants as our brothers and sisters regardless of ethnicity, faith and region. This we shall do. And no amount of evil or terror from whatever quarter shall stop us from fulfilling what Allah has commanded us to do.

Thus, I ask you to continue to believe in the excellent nation Nigeria can be. Let us eschew violence and those who cause and sponsor it. Let us not forget the poor and vulnerable among us. Let us demonstrate brotherly concern and compassion and give succour to those unable to help themselves.
This Eid, we beseech Almighty Allah to protect the weak, feed the poor and give us the courage and wisdom to subdue and defeat those who would seek to hurt the innocent and impair this nation.

We pray for our gallant soldiers and other security agents who, daily, sacrifice themselves to confront violent evil. Let us also remember President Muhammadu Buhari, our governors and other leaders in our prayers that they might find the wisdom and fortitude to surmount the challenges facing this country that, together, we can enjoy the benefits of a better Nigeria.

We pray for a greater nation and society where the light of democracy, peace, prosperity and hope shines on and for all of us and the darkness of poverty, violence and hatred is forever banished. We pray that Nigeria shall be faithful and remain true to its great calling and destiny.

Once again, I wish Muslims and indeed all Nigerians a most memorable Eid-el-Kabir. Eid Mubarak!.

Farouk Aliyu has told those doubting the credentials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to seek redress in court.

The former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives made the comment on Sunday amid claims that Tinubu falsified his academic qualifications.

“We have gone through this a very long time ago.
Asiwaju Tinubu was governor in Lagos, a two-time governor. These issues have come up. What haven’t they said about Tinubu? What hasn’t he proved to the people? And look, that is the beauty of democracy,” he said during an interview on Channels Television Sunday Politics.

“If anybody feels strongly that our candidate has no qualification to be president, he is entitled to go to court and challenge that.”

Aliyu, who also spoke about the search for a running mate to the former Lagos State governor, said the decision lies with Tinubu. He stated that the APC is still consulting and reiterated that competence, not religion, will be the major determinant.

“So, if our party comes out with a Muslim candidate, so be it. We are going to make sure we win the election,” he maintained.

“And if in the wisdom of our candidate, he brings a Christian candidate, we are also going to make sure we win the election because, as I said before, it is not about the religion or where you come from. It is about competence.”

His remarks came hours after Tinubu said he is still in search of a running mate ahead of the general elections.

He spoke on Sunday during his keynote address at a book launch to mark the 60th birthday of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

“I could see a Deputy (Wase) sitting down there too, you are very good symbols of unity, dependability, and honesty, thank you. Thank you for both of you, you’ve not rocked the boat. I will need to learn from both of you, how you made the pair work because I’m still searching for my running mate,” Tinubu said at the event held in Abuja.

“What you did during my primary (APC presidential election) is a story for another day. I’ve spent more time, too many times and people might be bored, they might be envious too, they might be jealous. I won a landslide, I thank you.

“Femi, with your determination, and reach, you are a contributor to our democratic growth, thank you. It is about charting a path to success, you’ve done a good job and I say thank you, thank you.”

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Manchester City over Gabriel Jesus as they look to sign their first-choice striker target this summer.

The Brazilian is one of the top names on Mikel Arteta's wish list after he made signing a striker a priority over the transfer window. The losses of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have left the Gunners light up front.

A number of players had been linked including Victor Osimhen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tammy Abraham but Jesus was always the main priority. Arteta knows the player well from his time as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach.

And according to The Athletic, an agreement has finally been reached with City over a fee for Jesus for £45million. Chelsea had also been interested in the 25-year-old, though it is believed that their prime target is Raheem Sterling.

Tottenham were linked with the forward but never looked too keen on the player with Antonio Conte targeting other areas of his squad over up front - where Harry Kane looks set to stay. The two north London teams look the most active in the transfer window so far after Yves Bissouma was signed from Brighton.

Jesus now looks on course to become the fourth arrival at the Emirates after Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira. Arteta is still keen on another striker but will be over the moon if he can land his top target.

The former Palmeiras star is keen to leave City this summer after the signings of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Both are set to nudge Jesus further down the pecking order.

He only has one year left on his contract - which means that the Premier League champions either had to sell this summer or risk losing him for nothing next year. Guardiola did not want to let Jesus go despite the situation.

The Brazil international signed for City in 2016 and has gone on to make 159 appearances in the Premier League. During that time, he has scored 58 times and provided 32 assists - winning four titles.

Former Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Henry Ajomale, on Friday, said the gale of defections sweeping across the party would not affect the 2023 campaign of the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH during a telephone interview, Ajomale berated members of the party who dumped the APC for other political parties.

While admitting that such a move is expected during a build-up to every major election, the APC expressed confidence that it won’t have any serious implications for Tinubu’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2023 election.

“I don’t see any serious implication there because the presidential election will be the first to be conducted. Once Asiwaju wins, his victory will dictate the voting patterns in other polls like the senatorial, House of Reps, governorship, and LGAs.

“Another reason I think this current defection won’t trouble the APC presidential candidate one bit is that many of them didn’t move directly to the PDP,” he said.

Ajomale, who disclosed that he couldn’t really blame many of them, admitted “this is the season of defection for many politicians”.

According to him, some defectors left for the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Labour Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party.

“That’s how they scattered. As I said, it is not in favour of one particular party. When we assess this move critically, the PDP is the biggest loser. This is what you should expect since it’s an election period. In 2015, you witnessed mass defection from the PDP to APC.”

However, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, told Saturday PUNCH that defection was not new to any political party.

“You can’t stop people from doing that. I am not suggesting that some of those people don’t have legitimate grievances. Of course, it is natural.”

Leaders of the South-South Zone of the All Progressives Congress have thrown their weight behind the presidential flagbearer of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, ahead of the 2023 general election.

While addressing journalists in Abuja, National Chairman of the APC South-South Zone, Victor Giadom, disclosed that they have asked all members of the party from the six states in the geopolitical zone to help Tinubu achieve his presidential ambition next year.
Giadom made the statement after hours of closed-door meeting with a delegation of the South-South leaders, including former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun; Senate Deputy President, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen.

According to him, the APC is determined and will do whatever it takes to ensure that Tinubu successfully takes over the governance of the country from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), after the 2023 general election.

He said, “We congratulate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for emerging as the presidential candidate of our party and thank him for the steps he has so far taken to unite those who contested that election with him and to assure him that the South-South zone will support his ticket.

“The South-South Zone in that direction has resolved to work with him and the party to ensure victory in the 2023 general election.”
While pledging to work harder to restore the party dominance in the six states of the region by 2023, the leaders of the APC South-South applauded Amaechi for his political maturity and show of sportsmanship after losing the presidential ticket to Tinubu.

“We appreciate Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, our own son and former Minister of Transportation, who came second in the presidential contest, for the party unity he has demonstrated after the presidential primary.

“We, therefore, urge all party members in the South-South zone to embrace the presidential ticket of our party to ensure victory in 2023,” Giadom stated.
He also saluted the president and the APC northern governors for their commitment to the unity of the country and for allowing a level playing field for all the aspirants.

“We congratulate them too for the patriotism for which they demonstrated in ceding the presidential ticket of the APC to the Southern part of the country,” he said.

SAHARA REPORTERS PUBLICATION ON LT GENERAL T.Y. BURATAI (RTD) IS A SMEAR AND FABRICATED TALE

MY attention has been drawn to a recent publication on webpage of sahara reporters titled “EXCLUSIVE: Anti-graft Agency, ICPC Uncovers Billions In Cash Meant For Arms, Ammunition To Fight Boko Haram In Abuja Home Of Ex-Chief Of Army Staff, Buratai”which was published on23/06/2022.

I have gone through the said Publication and have interfaced with Ambassador T.Y.Buratai and can authoritatively say the content of the publication is false, concocted and malicious.

It is on record that on or about 5th April 2018 President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the purchase of equipment worth $1bn for the military through the Ministry of Defence. It is a fact that first batch of Six Super Tucano fighter jets arrived Nigeria July 22, 2021 while final batch of the 12 A-29 Super Tucano fighter jets arrived October 18, 2021. No Arms fund is ever missing contrary to some previous mischievous publications.

For the records no such amount ( or any similar sum) was found with Ambassador Buratai nor does he have any Aide bearing such name. Ambasador Buratai has no office or house in Wuse Abuja(address not supplied by SR) nor does he have any bulletproof cars, BMW, G-Wagon (Particulars of vehicle not also supplied by SR) worth N450m and neither is ICPC investigating any such.

We view this as an orchestrated act aimed at tarnishing the image of LT General T.Y Buratai and we shall take all legal steps to hold the publishers accountable for such grievious character assassination on the image of LT.T.Y Buratai(RTD).

The aspirant on the platform of All Progressive Congress APC for Eket Federal Constituency in AKwa Ibom state, Hon Aniekan Akpan, has said that he scored 126 votes to emerge winner in Eket Federal Constituency in AKwa Ibom state.

Speaking during a media interaction with newsmen in Uyo on Sunday, Akpan said Mr Eseme Eyibio, who bought APC nomination form to contest for Eket Federal Constituency never participated in the primary held at Eket police station last month.

He explained that he was shocked by the rumours peddled by his opponent that he (Eseme Eyibio) had won the party ticket even when he never took part in the election.

Akpan, a former Chairman of Eket Local Government area on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in AKwa-Ibom, stated that Eket Federal Constituency has four local governments comprising of Eket, Onna, Ibeno and Esit Eket council areas, with five delegates participating in the election.

He listed the party constitutional provisions for nominating APC candidates for elective positions to include: Direct, Indirect primaries and consensus method, adding that there was no provision for selection of candidates for election in the party, DailyTimes gathered.

He said Mr Eseme Eyibio, who was his opponent in the election never turned up even in the party office where election materials were moved to designated venue for voting.

He wondered how an aspirant who never take part in the primary suddenly became a winner

“But my opponent did not come to the party Secretariat where materials were entrusted to one Aniekan Archibong who was the Retuning Officer in the election.”

“Even at Eket police station where the voting took place , Eseme Eyibio was not there . I learnt he was busy supervising cooking of rice and ignored the voting exercise,” he said.

He therefore debunked rumours allegedly peddled by opponents that he ran away with the election materials.

“I know how party works as the former chairman of PDP . That was why I went to APC office in the morning to ensure that materials.”

AlhamduLilah, we are a few days to Eid-ul-Adha, one of the two major Islamic festivals. Those who plan to make Udhiya (Qurbani) this year would have been keeping themselves updated about the price of these animals in the market. Some of these animals include a goat, sheep, cow, bull, buffalo, or camel, male or female if they meet the condition (see other thread, for further information on the type of animal and the condition they should meet).

“There is nothing dearer to Allâh during the days of Qurbâni than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair and hooves (to be weighed in reward). The sacrifice is accepted by Allâh before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore, sacrifice with an open and happy heart.” (Hadith-Ibn Majah).

“Whoever has the capacity to sacrifice and does not do so, should not come to the place where the Eid prayer is offered.” (Hadith-Ibn Majah).

To encourage those who think it is very expensive to make Udiyah, could you post the prices of these animals and your location on this thread?

May Allah make it easy for us.

EXCLUSIVE: Anti-graft Agency, ICPC Uncovers Billions In Cash Meant For Arms, Ammunition To Fight Boko Haram In Abuja Home Of Ex-Chief Of Army Staff, Buratai - Sahara Reporters

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK JUN 23, 2022

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered N1.85 billion from a house and office said to belong to former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai in Abuja, multiple sources told SaharaReporters.

Sources said ICPC officials stormed the house in the Wuse area, beside the National Open University of Nigeria Campus in Abuja last week after it received a tip-off from a whistleblower.

SaharaReporters gathered that the huge cash was part of the billions of naira earmarked for the purchase of arms and ammunition by the Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

“Last week Thursday, ICPC officials stormed a house in Wuse area of Abuja, beside National Open University and arrested a man, Kabiru Salisu after they saw N850 million cash in the house,” a source told SaharaReporters.
“He claimed the money belonged to Tukur Buratai who was in Cotonou at that time.
“Officials of the ICPC took him to an office where another N1billion in cash was also discovered. Also, bulletproof cars, BMW, G-Wagon worth N450m were recovered."
“Serious pressure is being mounted to claim money found was only N30m,” another source said.

In March 2021, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno revealed that funds running into billions of naira meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition under the past service chiefs were unaccounted for. His revelation came a few months after President Buhari replaced Buratai and other service chiefs. Others were former Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonishakin; Chief of Air Staff, Abubakar Sadique and Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ibas.

According to Monguno, neither the money nor the arms were on the ground upon the resumption of the new service chiefs. “Now that he (President Buhari) has brought new people (service chiefs), hopefully, they will devise some ways… I’m not saying the former service chiefs diverted the money, but the money is missing. We don’t know how, and nobody knows for now,” he had said. “The President will surely probe this matter. As we speak, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum too is also wondering where all the money went. I can assure you the President takes issues of this nature seriously. “The fact is that preliminary investigation showed the funds are missing and the equipment is nowhere to be found. “When the new service chiefs assumed office, they also said they did see anything on the ground.”

History Of Graft

Sahara Reporters had in a series of publications in 2016 exposed how Buratai procured expensive assets in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, between 2013 and 2015, from proceeds of crime. He and his two wives in 2013 paid the sum of 1,498,534.00 AED (N120 million/$419,000) for the first property, Project TFG Marina Hotel Unit 2711. Sale documents indicated that the first property was handed over to the Buratais on January 13, 2013.

Eleven days after he was appointed by President Buhari, the retired Army General made arrangements for the purchase of a second property from the same company in Dubai. Between July 24 and August 17, 2015, he paid a total sum of N42.2 million into TFG Sigma 111’s account in Nigeria (Skye Bank 1770380452). Evidence exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters revealed that Buratai made N10 million payments on July 24 and August 7 respectively.

Three days later, another N10 million was paid into the real estate firm’s account. The phone number on the Skye Bank teller is 08033349740. Saharareporters investigations showed that it belonged to a Nigerian Army Major, Emmanuel G. Adegbola of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (N/10808). On August 17, 2015, the Chief of Army Staff paid the sum of N3,270,000 into the account.

Buratai, who owned up to purchasing the two properties in Dubai, however, claimed that he amassed his wealth through “personal savings” and not ill-gotten gains. He added he made a lot of money from his snake farm along Keffi-Abuja Highway in Nasarawa, just 50 kilometres from the nation’s capital.
