REVIEW: “From a Northern Muslim: THE HERD is a Patriotic Masterpiece, Not Propaganda"

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the movie THE HERD, which was produced to highlight the problem of terrorism in Nigeria. The movie deserves credit for its excellent production — great cinematography, directing, and realistic acting. The storytelling style was good, but the plot itself wasn’t very strong. However, the impressive ex*****on makes the audience overlook the weak story.

The actors delivered outstanding performances. Many scenes felt so real that you could easily forget you were watching a movie. Of course, there were a few minor errors, but nothing serious enough to stop one from enjoying the film.

The criticism around the message of the movie — especially among my fellow Muslims — is unnecessary. The film’s message is about the biggest problem facing Nigeria today. Personally, I did not see any insult or negative portrayal of Muslims or the northern region. In fact, if anyone should complain, it should be the Christians, because the movie shows some pastors as being among the terrorists, and even depicts rituals and human remains hidden inside church premises. That is something worth complaining about if complaints were necessary.

On the other hand, Muslims have no reason to complain. The movie even portrays a Muslim police officer who led the fight against the terrorists as a good, patriotic man who loves his religion and his country. That shows clearly that those terrorists do not represent true Islam. It highlights the difference between real Muslims and criminals who hide under the name of Islam.

In short, the movie did not insult northern Nigeria or Islam in any way. I call on Nigerian Muslims to stop attaching themselves to these terrorists. If criminals hide under the identity of Muslims, northern people, Hausa, or Fulani, it does not make them representatives of us. If someone criticizes them, I will never take it as criticism against me because what they are doing is wrong. Anyone who exposes or fights them deserves support and prayers.

PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS THE PASSING OF RENOWNED MUSLIM LEADER SHEIKH DAHIRU BAUCHI

President Bola Tinubu received the news of the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss.

The revered Bauchi-based cleric died Thursday at the age of 101.

The President mourns the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, describing him as a moral compass who dedicated his life to teaching and preaching.

President Tinubu says Sheikh Bauchi's loss is monumental not only to his family and teeming followers but also to the nation.

The President recalls the blessings and moral support he received from the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi in the run-up to the 2023 election.

"Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void," the President says.

President Tinubu condoles with the Sheikh's followers across the country and beyond for the irreparable loss.

He also urges them to immortalise the late cleric by holding on to his teachings of peaceful coexistence, strengthening their relationship with God and being kind to humanity.
