THE FLASHIEST CAR ISN’T ALWAYS THE BEST CAR.
A client recently asked me to inspect and assess three vehicles she carefully selected.
On first impression, one stood out—flashy, attractive and well-presented. The dealer’s sweet talk made it even more convincing.
But inspection told a different story.
Vehicle 1: The most attractive of the three, full option but the lowest grade. Visible oil leakage and significant rust underneath.
Vehicle 2: Not as flashy as the first. A key-entry specification, but not a full-option model. Decent, but with compromises.
Vehicle 3: Keyless, First body, full option, with only minor visible paint cracks around the rear bumper. A bit dusty because it has not been washed. More importantly, its vital components were still factory-standard, with a solid body requiring only minor cosmetic attention. The interior and components were also consistent with its original Belgium specification.
Which would you choose?
And more importantly, would you make that decision based on what you see—or what a proper inspection reveals?
Would you buy a vehicle solely on appearance, dealer persuasion or how “sweet” the deal sounds?
A professional vehicle assessment looks beyond the paint, interior and presentation. It examines the mechanical condition, structural integrity, originality, previous repairs, underbody condition and overall value.
Sometimes, the vehicle that looks like the best deal is simply the best-presented problem.
If you were my client, which of these three would you choose—and why?
Let's hear our thoughts.
And if you’re considering buying a vehicle, remember:
it costs far less to pay for proper inspection before purchase than to discover expensive problems after payment.
