Getting ready for the next cycle, how do yo disinfect?
I'mTo properly disinfect your brooding cage and large space cage before stocking the next batch of birds, follow these key steps:
🧼 1. Remove All Organic Matter
Clear out all old litter, manure, feathers, leftover feed, and other debris.
Use a broom, shovel, and scraper for thorough cleaning.
💦 2. Wash Thoroughly
Wash all surfaces (walls, floors, cages, feeders, and drinkers) with water and detergent.
Use a high-pressure hose or brush for stubborn stains.
🧴 3. Disinfect Properly
Apply a strong disinfectant (e.g., Virkon, Hypo solution, Dettol, or Glutaraldehyde-based disinfectants).
Spray or mop every surface, including walls, floors, and cage wires.
Let it sit for the recommended contact time (usually 30 minutes to 1 hour).
☀️ 4. Dry and Air Out
Allow the entire area to dry completely.
Open windows and doors for good ventilation and sunlight exposure (sunlight helps kill pathogens).
🔥 5. Fumigate (Optional but Effective)
Fumigate using formalin + potassium permanganate or other poultry-safe fumigants.
Seal the room during fumigation and leave it closed for 24–48 hours.
Ensure no humans or animals are present during this period.
🧯 6. Clean Equipment Separately
Soak feeders, drinkers, and lamps in hot water with disinfectant.
Scrub thoroughly, rinse, and let them dry before placing back.
🧼 7. Whitewash or Paint (Optional)
Consider applying whitewash (lime + water mix) on walls to kill remaining germs and brighten the house.
📆 8. Rest Period
Leave the pen empty for 10–14 days to break disease cycles before bringing in new chicks.
