THE 3:17 TRAIN

Episode 2: DON'T LOOK BACK

The train didn’t stop at the next station.

It blew past Ikeja, doors locked, lights flickering. Chika’s message sat on her screen, unanswered. The man in the black cap hadn’t moved. He just watched her in the reflection of the window.

Her heart hammered. _Get off at the next stop._ But the next stop was gone.

She stood up, clutching the two notes. Her legs felt like water. If she ran to the emergency lever, would he stop her?

“Stay seated,” a voice said.

It wasn’t loud. But it was right behind her.

Chika turned slowly.

It wasn’t the man in the cap.

It was the conductor. His uniform was wrong. Too new. No name tag. His eyes didn’t blink.

“You shouldn’t have read that second note,” he said. “It was for someone else.”

The train sped up. Outside, the Lagos skyline blurred into streaks of orange.

Chika’s phone buzzed again.

> “He’s lying. The lever is at the end of the car. Pull it.”

But the message had no number. No name. Just like the notes.

The conductor smiled. It didn’t reach his eyes.

“Last chance, Chika. Sit down. Or I’ll sit you down.”

THE 3:17 TRAIN.

Episode 1: THE WRONG PASSENGER.

Every Tuesday at 3:17 PM, Chika boarded the Lagos-Ibadan train from Ikeja. Not for work. Not for family.

For the note.

It was always tucked under seat 14B. A single folded paper, no envelope. No name. The handwriting changed every week, but the message didn’t:

_“They don’t know you’re watching yet. Keep watching.”_

Today was different.

Today there was a second note. Under the seat. Stamped in red ink:

_“Stop.”_

Chika’s throat went dry. She’d been watching for 8 months. Reporting what she saw to an email address that never replied. Just the notes in return.

She looked up. The carriage was half empty. A man in a black cap sat two rows ahead, reading a newspaper upside down. He hadn’t been there last week.

The train lurched forward.

Her phone buzzed. Unknown number.

> “Get off at the next stop. Don’t look back.”

Chika stared at the message. The train doors were still locked. The next stop was 12 minutes away.

She looked back at the man in the black cap.

He was looking right at her.

*Hook for Episode 2:* Does Chika get off? Who’s sending the notes? And why does the man in the cap know her name?
