The former president general of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigene (CCII), Chief Yemi Soladoye has revealed how the Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde earned a forever place in his heart by three landmark deeds.

Soladoye made the revelation on Monday at the ibadan culture ambassadorial honors conferment of the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigene.

Speaking at the event honoring the council chairman, Soladoye highlighted Makinde’s stellar contributions to the cultural, traditional and developmental landscape of the state, underscoring the governor’s indelible mark on Ibadan’s history.

Topping the list of the three landmark achievements by the Governor in Soladoye’s account was the construction of the Olubadan of Ibadan’s palace, a modern edifice that stands as a testament to the governor’s commitment to preserving and promoting Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage.

“The building of the Olubadan Palace is a monumental achievement that reflects Governor Makinde’s deep respect for our traditions and his vision to ensure that the Ibadan legacy is preserved for generations to come…. The palace, as a befitting seat for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has not only elevated the status of the traditional institution but also become a source of pride for indigenes”, Soladoye stated.

Another defining act of Makinde’s administration, according to Soladoye, is the extraordinary elevation of a total number of lower class traditional rulers to Obaship status. “By granting royal recognition to these traditional leaders, Governor Makinde has empowered communities, deepened grassroots governance, and reinforced the cultural fabric of the state….This is no small feat!

The historic move strengthens the traditional institution and expands the influence of the chieftaincy system”, Soladoye noted.

Third on Soladoye’s account of Governor Makinde’s greatest deeds that earned a forever place in his heart was what he described “the rare opportunity” of having a humble and knowledgeable young chap like Kamorudeen as chairman of Lagelu at a time like this.

In this context, I firmly endorse Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as the best candidate to lead Nigeria. As a "talk and do" leader who has demonstrated exceptional governance in his home state, Makinde possesses the vision, experience, and determination to unite the nation and drive sustainable progress. This article explores why he is not only the right choice for Southern Nigeria but for the entire country, starting from 2027.

A Proven Track Record of Transformation in Oyo State
Governor Seyi Makinde's tenure in Oyo State since 2019 has been nothing short of transformative, serving as a blueprint for what effective leadership can achieve in Nigeria. Unlike many politicians who excel in rhetoric but falter in ex*****on, Makinde embodies the "talk and do" ethos—promising actionable plans and delivering on them with precision.

Fellow Nigerians, It is imperative to inform former Governor Ayodele Fayose that, every thing about Governor Seyi Makinde has changed democratically as a result of his excellent performance in Oyo state in the terms of good governance within less than six years in office as governor of Oyo state pragmatically.

Former Governor Fayose may wish to be informed that, Governor Seyi Makinde is now a presidential national project of concerned Nigerians democratically.

Because, most Nigerians including non Yoruba are already disappointed in the personality of President Tinubu due to the untold hardship his leadership from inception through public policies like Fuel Subsidies removal, among others have impacted negatively on Nigerians.

Therefore, everything about Governor Seyi Makinde is changing by the day because of his people centric leadership in Oyo state and Nigerians democratically want him to be President of Nigeria in 2027.

Finally, we want to implore Nigerians especially the likes of former Governor Fayose of Ekiti state to consider the popularity of Governor Seyi Makinde as opportunity to leverage on as Nigerians democratically brace up to elect a people centric President of Nigeria in the 2027 Presidential Election.

Why PDP Should Zone 2027 Presidential Ticket to Southern Nigeria for Equity, Justice and Fairness.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political history as the nation prepares for the next general elections in 2027.

As a citizen and a concerned stakeholder and advocates for national unity, I wish to call on the PDP leadership to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region of Nigeria.

This decision is not only a matter of political strategy but a necessity for fostering equity, justice, and national cohesion.

Why the South?
1. Historical Balance and Fairness-

Since the return to democracy in 1999, the presidency has rotated between Nigeria’s Northern and Southern regions to ensure no part of the country is marginalized.

In 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari, a Northerner, served out the eight years turn of the north, which created the opportunity for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Southerner to clinch the presidency.

Zoning the presidency to the South aligns with the unwritten but widely respected convention of power rotation, which the PDP itself pioneered to promote inclusivity since the inception of this fourth republic in 1999.

2. Strengthening National Unity:

Nigeria’s diversity is in its strength, but only when all regions feel represented. Zoning the presidency to the South will give Southern Nigerians, another renewed sense of belonging.

3. Party Constitution and Legacy:

The PDP’s constitution emphasizes equity, justice, and fairness through zoning and rotation of key offices. Section 7(2)(c) explicitly supports this principle to manage Nigeria’s multi-ethnic diversity.

By zoning the presidential ticket to the South, the PDP shall reinforce its commitment to these values, setting a standard for other parties and avoiding internal divisions.

4. Electoral Strategy:

Political analysts and stakeholders, including Southern governors and civil society groups, have warned that failing to zone the presidency to the South risks alienating a significant voter base.

The PDP’s success in 2027 hinges on mobilizing support across all regions. A Southern candidate can galvanize enthusiasm in the South while appealing to the North through a balanced ticket in 2031.

5. Response to National Sentiment:

Retaining the Presidency in the South in 2027, reflects a broad consensus that power must remain in the zone to ensure fairness after eight years of Northern leadership.

Ignoring this sentiment again seen in 2023 May further weaken the PDP’s credibility and electoral prospects.

I therefore urge the PDP National Executive Committee, led by its Acting National Chairman, Amb Iliya Damagum, and the newly suggested zoning committee, to heed this advice and the voices of other party faithful.

The decision to zone the presidency to the South is not just about winning elections; it is about preserving Nigeria’s unity and fulfilling the PDP’s promise of “Power to the People.”

The PDP has a historic opportunity to lead by example, demonstrating that it prioritizes national interest over individual ambitions.

Finally, I call for consultations with stakeholders across the South to ensure the selection of a competent and unifying candidate like the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, who can carry the aspirations of all Nigerians.

Oyo State Government Launches Phase II of 50 Percent Tractor Subsidy for Farmers; A Blueprint for Makinde’s Vision as Nigeria’s President in 2027.

Ibadan, Oyo State - The Oyo State Government, under the dynamic leadership of Governor Oluseyi Makinde, has commenced the Phase II of its transformative 50 percent Tractorisation Subsidy Programme, aimed at bolstering smallholder farmers across the state for the 2025 farming season.

This initiative, which builds on the successes of its inaugural phase in 2024, underscores Governor Makinde’s unwavering commitment to agricultural innovation, food security, and economic empowerment, the principle he intends to replicate nationwide as a potential President of Nigeria in 2027.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Agodi, Ibadan, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, highlighted the tangible impacts of the programme’s first phase.

In 2024, the state government supported 1,487 farmers, mechanically ploughing 6,090.91 acres of farmland.

This effort contributed to Oyo State’s recognition by the National Bureau of Statistics as one of Nigeria’s states with the lowest food inflation rates, alongside the export of over 9,569 tonnes of cassava from the Ibarapa zone alone between December 2024 and March 2025.

“This initiative exemplifies Governor Makinde’s vision of agricultural transformation,” Olaleye stated. “By reducing the cost of land preparation through mechanisation and providing climate-smart information, we are breaking barriers to productivity.

Phase II will surpass these achievements, targeting even more farmers and acreage in 2025.”

The Tractorisation Subsidy Programme, which offers farmers a 50 percent discount on tractor services, is part of a broader strategy to modernize agriculture in Oyo State.

Registration for the 2025 programme is now open, accessible through Agricultural Extension Officers, the Ministry headquarters, and a new online booking platform.

Partnerships with organizations like ‘Hello Tractor’ and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) ensure technical expertise and climate data support, enhancing farmers’ decision-making.

Sheik Taofeek Azeez Akeugbagold, Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), praised Governor Makinde’s dedication, noting that farmers can also access credits and loans to complement the subsidy.

“This is a leader who genuinely prioritizes the wellbeing of farmers,” he said.

A National Vision for 2027

Governor Makinde’s agricultural strides in Oyo State are widely seen as a model for his potential presidency in 2027.

If elected, Makinde shall replicate and expand this subsidy framework across Nigeria’s 36 states, tailoring it to regional agricultural needs while maintaining a focus on smallholder farmers, the backbone of the nation’s food production.

As President, Makinde envisions a National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP), inspired by Oyo’s Tractorisation Policy. This would involve a federal-state partnership to provide subsidized tractors, farm machinery, and climate-smart resources to millions of farmers.

Drawing from Oyo’s success, where food inflation was curbed and productivity soared, Makinde’s administration as President of Nigeria would aim to plough over 10 million acres nationwide within his first term, targeting key staples like rice, maize, and cassava to ensure food self-sufficiency.

Makinde’s approach is practical and results-driven. His plan would likely include establishing regional agribusiness hubs, akin to Oyo’s Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, to connect farmers to markets, and a robust credit system through a revamped Bank of Agriculture to mirror ACCOS’s role in Oyo.
