Here's a classic shortbread recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 2cups (4 sticks ) unsalted butter, softened
- 1cup granulated sugar
- 4cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or other flavorings (e.g., lemon zest, almond extract)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
2. In a mixing bowl or with your stand mixer, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. In a separate bowl, sieve together the flour and salt
4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture. If using any flavorings, add them now. Mix until combined and a soft dough is formed.
5. Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to a thickness of about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm).
6. Cut the dough into desired shapes using cookie cutters or slice it into squares or rectangles.
7. Transfer the cut-out cookies to the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small space between each cookie.
8. Prick the tops of the cookies with a fork to create small holes (optional).
9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake.
10. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. The shortbread cookies will firm up as they cool.
