📜 Full Hadith of Salat al‑Tasbih (in English)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Al‑‘Abbas ibn ‘Abdul‑Muttalib (RA):
“O Abbas, O my uncle! Shall I not give you something by means of which Allah will forgive your sins — the first and the last, the old and the new, the unintentional and the intentional, the small and the great, the hidden and the apparent?”
Then the Prophet ﷺ taught him the way to perform Salat al‑Tasbih:
“You should pray four rak‘ahs, reciting in each one Surah al‑Fatiha and another Surah.
When you finish the recitation in the first rak‘ah, while you are standing, say the Tasbih:
‘Subḥānallāhi wal‑ḥamdu lillāhi wa lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu akbar’
15 times before you bow. Then you bow and say it 10 times while bowing.
Then you raise your head and say it 10 times. Then you prostrate and say it 10 times.
Then you raise your head and say it 10 times in the sitting position.
Then you prostrate again and say it 10 times.
Then you raise your head and say it 10 times before standing up for the next rak‘ah.”
So that makes 75 recitations in each rak‘ah, and 300 total in the four rak‘ahs.
Then the Prophet ﷺ said:
*“If you can pray it once during the day, then do so;
if you cannot, then once every Friday;
if you cannot, then once every month;
if you cannot, then once every year;
if you cannot, then at least once in your lifetime.”
So whoever performs it, Allah will forgive him.” �
