No nation can defeat banditry through hardware and machines alone. The truth must be told: no amount of Armoured Personnel Carriers, no matter how many, will put an end to this menace unless they are backed with sincerity of purpose, courage, and the political will to act in the interest of the people.

Our citizens are not only crying for protection, they are yearning for leaders who will rise above lip service and show true commitment to defending lives and livelihoods. Banditry is not just a security challenge; it is a test of leadership. It requires more than weapons, it requires honesty, decisive action, and the courage to confront the rot that feeds this crisis.

Those entrusted with the destiny of our country must demonstrate that the safety of the people is not negotiable. Anything less than that is betrayal. The nation cannot afford half measures or political gimmicks in the face of bloodshed. What is needed is leadership that is bold, sincere, and determined to match security strategies with justice, good governance, and genuine compassion for the suffering masses.

Only then can we reclaim our land from the grip of bandits and restore hope to our people.

It is both unjust and deeply inhumane to fault the victims of banditry and terrorism for their inability to defend themselves. How can we, in good conscience, expect defenseless women, innocent children, and frail elders to resist the onslaught of ruthless, heavily armed criminals who seem to revel in the shedding of human blood? These are not mere acts of violence, they are acts of terror, committed by groups that outnumber and outgun entire communities.

Why, then, do we have a State, one that levies taxes and makes solemn promises to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, if not to rise to moments like these? The average person is not trained for war; most simply want to live in peace. And if our professional soldiers, backed by the resources of the nation, have struggled to contain this menace, how can we expect untrained civilians to succeed where armies falter?

We must stop this cruel rhetoric of blaming the helpless. The real issue lies elsewhere, in the erosion of our institutions and the betrayal of public trust. For years, our security apparatus has been weakened by flawed recruitment, systemic corruption, and poor leadership. We have failed to honor and care for the very soldiers we ask to risk everything. We’ve stood by as political actors, both in uniform and out, we have dismantled the traditional systems that once helped protect our communities.

What we face now is not just the wrath of bandits, but the bitter consequences of decades of leadership failure. We cannot begin to heal, much less overcome, by pointing fingers at those who suffer most. The blame belongs with those who held power and broke the promise to protect. Until we reckon with that truth, the cycle of violence will only deepen, and our silence will continue to echo louder than our compassion.

May the Almighty, in His infinite mercy, bring a swift and lasting end to the plague of insecurity that torments our region and our nation as a whole. May we be blessed with leaders who are guided by the fear of God, leaders whose hearts are anchored in conscience, compassion, and a genuine sense of duty to the people they serve. May they be men and women moved not by personal gain, but by patriotism, empathy, and a deep commitment to justice and peace.

Wishing you a joyful and peaceful Sallah celebration, filled with blessings, harmony, and memorable moments, free from stress or disruption.

CNG condemns killing of Innocent Travelers in Edo

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the brutal killing of 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria in Udune Efandion, Uromi, Edo State.

The National Coordinator of the Coalition, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, in a statement issued and signed in Abuja, stated that this tragic incident, which occurred on Thursday, was a result of false accusations of kidnapping, leading to an enraged mob taking the law into their own hands.

He noted that victims were ordinary citizens traveling for legitimate reasons, not criminals.

The Coalition strongly condemned this barbaric act and the incitement of local youths to commit such a heinous crime adding that, the actions of the mob, driven by misinformation and ignorance, were an affront to humanity and decency.

It urged citizens to reject mob justice and seek constructive dialogue instead of resorting to violence.

CNG demanded an immediate and thorough investigation into this tragedy, just as it questioned the delayed response of security operatives, which resulted in avoidable loss of lives.

The body enjoined Authorities to ensure such lapses do not recur and prioritize the safety of all Nigerians, regardless of region or ethnicity.

It also condemned the silence of leaders, who claim to represe
