Hello everyone,
Let me share an update on the evolution of health insurance in Nigeria. We've moved beyond simply having coverage to focusing on the quality of care. The new NHIA (National Health Insurance Authority) aims to achieve universal coverage, ensuring every citizen has access to healthcare.
You can now be covered under any of various schemes:
- Formal sector: Government employees
- Tertiary institution social health insurance program (TISHIP): Students
- Community-based social health insurance program (CBSHIP): Community members
- Vulnerable group: Aged and vulnerable citizens
- Family/group: GIFSHIP
- Private sector: Corporate plans from private health insurance companies
The goal is to provide health insurance coverage for all Nigerian citizens. In my next post, I'll explain how to access these schemes, their funding, advantages, and what sets them apart. Feel free to ask questions in the comment section!
