Manchester United winger Antony has flown back to England from Brazil and has agreed to meet Greater Manchester Police to answer questions about the serious allegations made against him.

The forward has been accused of attacking his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin "with a headbutt" in a Manchester hotel room on 15 January, leaving her with a cut head that needed treatment by a doctor.

She alleges she was also punched in the chest, causing damage to a silicone breast implant, which required corrective surgery.

He is also facing further allegations of assault from Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana.

Antony had been in Brazil since reporting for international duty but was withdrawn from the squad when news of the allegations emerged.

He was interviewed by police in Brazil in June but has not been charged. He also released a statement in June saying he had been falsely accused by his former girlfriend of domestic violence.

Local police raised no objection to the player returning to the UK. It is understood the 23-year-old is willing to surrender his phone to GMP to help them with their investigations.

Antony has denied all the allegations. He appeared on Brazilian TV, saying "I never attacked any woman" and added that "the truth will come out".

He also issued a statement saying: "I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.

"This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club.

"I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully co-operate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible."

Antony has been given leave on full pay by United to deal with the allegations.

The club have said they are taking the allegations "seriously".

Dangote Refinery To Sell Fuel To Nigerians In Dollars, Not Naira

Dangote group’s Executive Director Devakumar Edwin has revealed that the refinery would sell petrol to Nigerians in US dollars and not Nigeria Naira.

Dangote Refinery is set to begin refining petrol by November 30, 2023, and diesel and jet fuel operations by October 2023, the group’s executive director Devakumar Edwin says.

In an interview with S&P Global Commodity Insights on Monday, Edwin added that the refinery would receive its first crude cargo in two weeks’ time and would begin producing up to 370,000 barrels per day of diesel and jet fuel in October 2023.

Furthermore, Edwin pointed out that the refinery would initiate a gradual increase in petrol production, aiming to reach an impressive 650,000 barrels per day by November 30. He emphasised the refinery’s readiness to receive crude oil, stating, “Right now, I’m ready to receive crude. We are just waiting for the first vessel. And so, as soon as it comes in, we can start.”

Regarding the shift in the original timeline, Edwin clarified, during his conversation with S&P, that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited had already committed their crude oil to another entity on a forward basis, causing a temporary delay. He said that the setback is momentary, and the refinery would soon run exclusively on Nigerian crude oil as of November 2023.

He noted that the Nigerian oil would be purchased in US dollars, and not naira because it is in a free trade zone on the outskirts of Lagos. However, the NNPCL will supply some crude at knockdown prices due to its equity stake.

Edwin further stated that, aside from heavy Angolan grades, the Dangote refinery can process most African crudes, as well as Middle Eastern Arab Light and even US light-tight oil.

He said, “We can take even some of the Russian grades… if the global system opens up to allow us to receive them. Basically, if you look at our production profile, 50% of my production will meet 100% of the requirements of the country.

Meanwhile, jet fuel will be exported to Europe and diesel will be sold in sub-Saharan Africa.” S&P also quoted Edwin as saying

Real Reason Naira Is Exchanging For N1000 A Dollar - Finance Minister

Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Adebayo Olawale Edun, has said up to $6.8 billion in overdue due forward payments on the foreign exchange market are to blame for the naira’s decline and must be resolved for the local currency to stabilize.

According to a Bloomberg report, he stated that if these unpaid contracts can be addressed, it will strengthen the naira and open the door for additional foreign exchange flows.

This comes after a report that the FG’s economic plans are being disrupted as the naira breaks records against the dollar in the parallel market.

In response to worries about postponing the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, the naira continued its wild plunge on Thursday, falling to a record low of 1,050 per dollar on the black market.

In a recent interview in New York, Edun, who travelled with President Bola Tinubu to the United Nations, stated that the problem is that the market is not liquid enough.

“We are committed to encouraging liquidity based on reforms that have been made at the moment, on the fiscal side and the monetary side. And together with the restoration of trust and confidence, we think the FX flows will return.”

The country is plagued with various issues affecting its from the previous administration. As the scarcity of dollars persists, many are forced to take to the streets for foreign cash since the central bank isn’t giving enough dollars.

Nigeria’s inflation is at its highest level in more than 18 years. Committing to improving these, the finance minister said:

“The commitment is to maintain the existing reforms and improve them. Improving the FX market further so the gap narrows. Looking at all options for boosting supply so the one-way bet of speculators that we are seeing at the moment is reversed.”

The Nigerian Central Bank’s earlier scheduled meeting for September 25–26 had to be postponed while they awaited the confirmation of Olayemi Cardoso, the newly appointed governor who had worked for Citigroup.

Making crucial choices has been delayed due to the resignations of the acting governor, four deputy governors, and the acting governor.
