PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES FORMER MILITARY PRESIDENT, GEN. IBRAHIM BABANGIDA, AT 84

President Bola Tinubu felicitates former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 84th birthday today.

The President rejoices with the family, friends, and associates of the former military leader whose eight years of rule greatly impacted Nigeria's socio-economic and political development.

President Tinubu celebrates General Babangida's distinguished military career, which includes serving as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment, Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and Chief of Army Staff.

The President notes Gen. Babangida's stewardship of the country, saying his military administration will be remembered for its massive investment in infrastructure, such as the Third Mainland Bridge, and the reforms that liberalised the Nigerian economy.

The former military leader established the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), among others.

President Tinubu also highlights Babangida's role in creating states and relocating the Federal capital from Lagos to Abuja.

While thanking him for his sacrifice and leadership, the President prays to Almighty Allah to grant the former military leader more years and renewed strength.

Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra state-born Miss Nwanneamaka Cynthia Isiadinso, from Osili village shines with 8 As and a Credit in English language.

She had written the exams while still mourning the passing of her late mum. She poured all that grief into positive energy to make her late mum proud.

Congratulations Ada Enugwu.

This metal mask was used during slavery for three main reasons:
1) To prevent slaves from eating fruits such as apples, pineapples, oranges, cashews, bananas, plantains, and sugarcanes, etc., while harvesting them, yet they were made to work consistently in all the plantation farms.
2) To stop slaves from chanting our African spiritual songs, which not only affected the slave masters but also motivated some slaves to rebel and fight back, regardless of losing their lives.
3) To stop slaves from teaching our African local dialects (languages) to their children, thereby destroying our dialects and forcing them to learn foreign languages.
Lastly, to starve slaves as a punishment in slave camps, the mask prevented them from eating or drinking. Sometimes, slave masters would force an apple (a whole 🍎) into the mouths of slaves before wearing the metal mask on them with padlocks so that they couldn't talk.
Stay tuned as I unravel things you do not know about your continent, "Africa", from pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial eras.
