Comrade IG Wala has criticised Sheikh Yahaya Jingir over his recent political comments, describing his views as irresponsible and insisting that they do not represent the wider Muslim community in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 10, Wala questioned whether the priorities reflected in Jingir’s position adequately address the pressing challenges facing millions of Nigerians.
He cited widespread hunger, hardship, challenges in the healthcare sector, vulnerable women and children on the streets, and the growing number of out-of-school children as issues that should demand greater attention from leaders and public figures.
Wala also accused what he described as “merchants of political deceit” of weaponising religion for personal and political interests, arguing that this comes at a time when ordinary Nigerians continue to face severe socio-economic challenges.
According to him, using faith as a shield for political patronage is politically irresponsible and potentially damaging to Nigeria’s peace, stability, democratic development and national unity.
Wala called on Nigerians to continue scrutinising individuals who, in his view, use religious influence for political expediency.
His comments have added to the broader debate over the role of religious leaders in Nigeria’s political affairs and the extent to which faith-based voices should engage with political power and public policy.
