FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the South African Football Association (SAFA) for fielding ineligible player Teboho Mokoena in the March 21, 2025 World Cup 2026 qualifier against Lesotho. The breach of Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and Article 14 of the World Cup Preliminary Regulations led to South Africa forfeiting the match 3-0. SAFA was fined CHF 10,000, while Mokoena received a formal warning. The decision, delivered today, gives SAFA ten days to request a motivated ruling or file an appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee.

FIFA SANCTION SOUTH AFRICA FOR FIELDING INELIGIBLE PLAYER

FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the South African Football Association (SAFA) for fielding ineligible player Teboho Mokoena in the March 21, 2025 World Cup 2026 qualifier against Lesotho.

The breach of Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and Article 14 of the World Cup Preliminary Regulations led to South Africa forfeiting the match 3-0.

SAFA was fined CHF 10,000, while Mokoena received a formal warning. The decision, delivered today, gives SAFA ten days to request a motivated ruling or file an appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee.

Congo announces new ebola outbreak

A new outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed 15 people since the end of August, the health ministry says. The outbreak is in the central Kasai province.

The last outbreak in the central African nation was three years ago and killed six people. Authorities are continuing investigations and monitoring the situation closely.
