THE HEROISM OF NIGERIA POLICE ASP DAN ZURU & OTHERS AT AGU CENTRE IN BENUE STATE
..How A Gallant Police/ "Anyam Nyór" Operation Took On Hundreds Of Armed Terrorists
In difficult times such as we are in now, we must not take for granted the sacrifices that patriots make in the line of duty, lest the motivation that such sacrifices should give to others be lost.
The supreme price that Police ASP Danlamin Usman aka Dan Zuru and others paid at Agu Centre in armed combat operation against Fulani herdsmen and their bandit and militia allies must not be in vain.
The security operation at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State last Thursday, 19th September, 2025 against armed terrorists by a detachment of the Nigeria Police and the local security task force code named "Anyam Nyór" is worth taking proper note of.
Insider accounts have revealed how the operation led by ASP Dan Zuru, was executed with the sort of bravery that should earn those who fell in action and those who survived it the garlands they deserve.
Dan Zuru had become popular within security circles in the state for his uncommon bravery and serial successess in combat operations, particularly in the Sankera area where he was passionately committed to the fight against banditry and herdsmen terrorism.
With him on the operation was another combatant police veteran popularly known as John Bushman and the Commander of "Anyam Nyór" in Katsina-Ala, Commander Mike Tuurga, leading dozens of battle tested troops riding on motorcycles and 3 trucks including a heavy calibre Gun-truck.
Acting on credible intelligence the operation targeted to dislodge Fulani herdsmen who had retreated to Agu Centre following heavy loses they had suffered at the hands of the same team and units of the the Nigerian Army Operation WhirlStroke in the Utange - Mbatyula axis of Katsina-Ala LGA.
However, the team was apparently not aware of reinforcements recruited by the herdsmen who were joined at Agu Centre by local bandits in the area and hired mercenary militia from neighbouring Taraba State numbering in hundreds.
It was, therefore, a near overwhelming force that Dan Zuru and his team came up against when they got into the engagement envelope at Agu Centre, with the ensuing firefight said to have been bloody.
The enemy force which was reportedly entrenched and lying in wait unleashed heavy calibre automatic fire including with AK 47s, SMGs and Rocket Propelled Gr***de launchers (RPG) against Dan Zuru and his men who took cover and returned fire.
At this point professional combat training and experience is said to have weighed in favour of the gallant security forces, who though heavily outnumbered, were able to hold the terrorists and their allies at bay.
Dan Zuru, Tuurga, Bushman and a crack team around them are said to have kept the engagement envelope saturated with covering fire while he gave the orders for a retreat, and it was in the course of this that Commander Tuurga is said to have been shot in the arm.
The terrorists sensing a breach in the defence shield from the engle of fire earlier covered by the wounded Commander Tuurga had surged forward, but Bushman is said to have dashed forward, ducking under a hail of fire to take control of the Gun-truck which gunner might have gone down under the initial fire.
Bushman engaging the MG on the Gun-truck had reportedly wrecked havock on the enemy, giving Tuurga and others the needed covering fire to retreat into escape, with Dan Zuru still pinning down the main body of terrorists under withering fire.
It was when the chain ammunition feeding the MG on the Gun-truck had ran out and Bushman, without the assistance of a gunhand had no time to quickly enough break open and load a new chain-feed that Dan Zuru given him the order to dismount the MG and escape with it, which he did successfully, with his superior officer giving him covering fire.
