Episode One

"What are you waiting for before you propose marriage to me? We have been dating for seven years and to be honest, I'm tired of waiting. I'm presently 34 and I will be 35 by next month. I don't think you are being fair to me. How can I date you for seven years and you are not even talking about marriage? All you talk about is how you want to make money in millions. I don't even know when you are going to achieve that dream, but is this how I will continue to wait? I'm becoming inpatient and please, don't blame me if I wake up one day and leave you for another man. I have tried my best." Msizi tells Sizwe. Sizwe and Msizi have been dating since they were in the university. They studied the same course while in school.

When they were studying accounting in school, they did not know that they were going to end up doing small jobs and be earning peanuts. While Sizwe works at a supermarket as an accountant, his girlfriend, Msizi refused to work. Not that she did not look for a job after graduation, it's just that all the jobs she got offered her small money. One of them was at a bank where she was offered N50000 monthly salary but she rejected it. But Sizwe accepted the job at the supermarket where he earns N30,000 per month.

To keep herself busy, Msizi started a POS business in one corner of the street. She actually makes more money in a month than her boyfriend, Sizwe.

"Please, give me more time to put myself together. You know the salary I'm earning is not enough to take care of a family. I can't get married while earning a salary of N30,000. We will end up hating each other because love needs money to flourish. Please, my love, give me a little more time. I need another two years to be ready financially. Believe me, I'm saving money for our marriage. Once I reach a certain threshold, I will propose to you and then we will get married." Sizwe said. They were still in the bed that morning. Msizi had come the previous day and decided to spend the night with her boyfriend.

"That is what you always say. You have been saying this since we graduated from school. It no longer sounds good in my ears. I don't want to hear it anymore. When do you think you will save the amount of money you want before getting married?" Msizi asked. It actually took her a lot of courage before she opened her mouth and told Sizwe about marriage. She has been thinking about it but she had always said it was not in her place to say, because she is the woman in the relationship and therefore, she waited for the man to do the needful. It seemed Sizwe was not ready so Msizi decided to take things into her hands.

"You are making it look as if I don't want to marry you. Are you suspecting me? Have I ever lied to you? In fact, since the first day we met in school, I told you that you will one day be my wife. I told you clearly that I will marry you even when we were in school. What other confirmation do you want to have? Are you suspecting that I might be seeing another woman?" Sizwe asked. He stood up from the bed and started to prepare to go out. That day, he was supposed to go to the bank to collect new POS machines for the supermarket where he works. The previous week, he had gone to the new bank to open five new bank bank accounts. The bank told him to return for the POS machines attached to the account numbers. The owner of the supermarket trusts Sizwe so much because he is an honest man. Since he became the cashier at the supermarket, no money has missed. Sizwe keeps accurate records and gives account of every cash.

"I don't know if you are seeing another woman, but my heart is no longer at rest. Seven years is not seven days, neither is it seven months. I have been patient enough and I think I deserve an explanation as to why I don't have a ring in my finger yet. By the way, where are you going? Are you not going to work today? Time is far spent." Msizi asked.

"I'm not sure I can make it to work today. I have been asked to go the bank and pick POS machines. By the time I'm back from the bank, it might be too late for me to go to work. I will just relax and take the the POS machines to the supermarket tomorrow. Someone will assist me to do my job today." Sizwe said. He dressed up and left the room after hugging Msizi.

"My dear, don't worry, you will soon walk to the altar. I promise you, it will happen. Just trust me and give me some time my love. I will not disappoint you." Sizwe said as he left for the bank.

Luckily for Sizwe, when he got to the bank, he was attended to immediately and he was on his way back with the five POS machines. He was so happy because he only had two POS machines before and they were not enough for use at the supermarket. When he got home, he found out that Msizi had gone to her shop.

"Let me take this opportunity to have a good afternoon sleep. It's been long I slept in the afternoon. Thanks goodness I can sleep today. I wish I have this kind of opportunities everyday." Sizwe said as he fell on the bed playfully like a child and dozed off.

He didn't wake up until 10 pm in the night. In fact, it was Msizi who woke him up when she came back from her POS shop. She had finished cooking before deciding to wake Sizwe. But before then, she had done what she wanted to do.

She had gone to the bag where Sizwe kept the POS machines. She took one of them and swapped it with her own. She owns up to six POS machines from different banks. She used one of her own which is of the same colour with the ones Sizwe brought from the bank to do the swapping. She took one new POS from Sizwe's bag and then put her own there.

"Let me secure my future with this one. This is a perfect plan. Now, any money that is paid into this particular POS in the supermarket will enter my account. No one will know that the POS does not belong to the the supermarket. With this now, even if Sizwe refuses to marry me in the future, I will use the money to compensate myself. I can't be in a relationship for seven years and then lose everything. But if he ends up getting married to me, then we can enjoy the money together." Msizi said happily as she carefully zipped Sizes's bag and kept it where it was before leaving.

The next day, Sizwe took the POS machines to the supermarket without checking them. Immediately he arrived, he started using them. The supermarket where he works is a very busy place where millions comes out every day. He is the only one in charge of collecting money from customers. He only has one person helping him to pack groceries for customers, but he always collects the money himself. This is instruction from the owner of the supermarket. The only time he doesn't collect money is when he is not around. He put all the POS machines to use day. Any money money paid into the one swapped by Msizi goes to her account.

It was not long before money started rolling into her account. That day alone, she got N700,000.

"Wow! Poverty is gone forever!" Msizi said that evening. She was careful not to let Sizwe to know about her plans.

"When I get up to N100 million, I will travel abroad and live there " Msizi said.

The Supermarket Cashier

Episode 2

“I want to buy a house. I have decided to stop paying rent. I will use your name and buy the house because as it is in our culture, the woman is expected to respect the man. It would be disrespectful for me to buy a house in my name when my boyfriend is yet to make enough money to do so himself. I will give you the money to use and pay for the house, then when you make money, you can now pay me back.” Msizi tells Sizwe who just returned from work. It is now one six months since she swapped the supermarket POS machine with her own and she is now very rich. There is already N80 million in her account and no one has discovered yet. The supermarket is so big and the owner is so rich that such money could disappear and no one will quickly detect. In fact, it was hard to detect, because there were hardly any traces. So, she decided to start spending the money.

“Where did you suddenly got money to buy a house? How can you just wake up and say you want to buy a house? Your parents are not rich and no inheritance was left for you. You have no major investments that could yield such big money in a short time. It is surprising that you are talking of buying a house when you can barely pay your rent without going broke. Where did you get the money? If you don’t explain it properly to me, I will not be party to it.” Sizwe said to Msizi who was busy pressing her phone. She had expected this reaction from her boyfriend, so she already prepared a convincing answer to give him.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you. I wanted it to be a surprised to you. I actually invested some money in bitcoin three years ago and the price has appreciated astronomically. I did not even know that it will bring profit. I just said let me drop the money in it and today, the thing has yielded millions of Naira for me. I actually bought one bitcoin that time it was sold at $1000. Now, it is sold at $60,000. My dear, join me and thank this God for what he has done for me. I’m so glad the wise decision I took years ago has made me to be financially free today. It was a huge sacrifice because I invested all my savings into it back then.” Msizi said. She knew she had convinced Sizwe with her lies. Sizwe himself knows about bitcoin and was aware how much it is sold. So, he did not bother to ask more questions as he quickly accepted the explanation given to him by Msizi.

“Wow! That was a very wise decision and I must say you are a very courageous woman. I have always felt you are hiding something from me. Now, the truth has come out. Thank God you made it, if not, I would have been so sad if you had lost that money. Congratulations to you my love. So, have you found a house to buy? Which location? I’m ready to do whatever it takes to make sure we find a nice house in a good location. I’m so happy we will stop paying rent.” Sizwe said, shouting on top of his voice. He jumped up and hugged Msizi.

“There is a real estate agent I contacted and he has shown me a good property. I want us to go and see it on Sunday. You are not going to work on Sunday, so it will be a good opportunity for us to contact the agent so that we can take a proper look at the house together. It is a five-bedroom apartment and it is located in Guzape here in Abuja. I’m sure you will like it. I have gone there to check it out.” Msizi said with a smile on her face. She was obviously very happy that Sizwe did not suspect anything fishy.

“How much is this property you are talking about?” Sizwe asked.

“The agent said everything is N12 million with agency fee and every other thing you pay when you buy a house.” Msizi said.

“Wait, you mean you have N12 million in your account right now? Like, the money is in your bank account?” Sizwe asked. He was scared when he heard the amount of money. With his current salary, he has to work for 100 years before having that kind of money in his bank account.

“Yes! I have the money and even more. I said I sold one bitcoin for $60,000. Do you know how much that is worth when converted to Naira? We are officially rich.” Msizi declared with full confidence.

“Hmmm! I’m so happy for you. Please, I want you to invest the money properly. Apart from buying a house, what else do you plan to do?” Sizwe asked.

“I will hand over everything to you. You can help me invest it where it would yield more profit. I want to expand my POS business and make it bigger. I will build more branches and concentrate on it while you also invest on other things. You can continue working at the supermarket while investing.” Msizi said confidently, placing her hands on Sizwe’s shoulders.

“I know exactly what to invest the money in. I will buy houses in the city and rent them out to tenants. It is a cool investment that yields so much money. That way, I can continue working until we decide when I will resign.” Sizwe said happily.

“That’s right. Whatever you decide, I will follow you. You are my boyfriend and the head of this relationship. But you have not said anything about getting married to me.” Msizi lamented jokingly.

“Ah! We are already husband and wife. The only thing remaining is for me to visit your parents and pay your bride price. Once we buy the house now, we are going to be living together and investing together. What other thing do you want? Don’t worry, marriage will come as fast as possible now that we have money. I was waiting for money, now the money has come. I don’t have any other excuse.” Sizwe said as he hugged Msizi.

“I have transferred N50 million into your account. Once you use this one finish, I will send another money. I want you to pay for all the investments with your name. The house we are going to see on Sunday, you will pay with your name. After all, you are my husband to be and I’m supposed to submit to you. Our culture says everything I own belongs to you.” Msizi said. Sizwe was very happy hearing those words.

Within the next two weeks, they were able to finalise arrangement for the new house and Sizwe paid and all the papers of the house were written in his name. He bought four other houses with the remaining money and they became landlords. They moved into the first house and started living together.

“Life is so sweet when you have money. With the strategic move I have made now, there is no way Sizwe can deny me if I’m caught. If it is discovered that I’m stealing money from the supermarket, he will not escape because the money is being invested and spent using his name. We are in it together and we are stealing and enjoying together. I will never allow him to resign from that job at the supermarket because that is our source of income.” Msizi said to herself that evening after they moved into their new house.
