Why are Nigerians in the UK so angry about this post? 😂
I made a post sharing my gratitude for the care I received throughout my pregnancy journey because I had seen someone in the US share a breakdown of her childbirth costs, which was over $20,000. Insurance covered most of it, but she still paid over $2,000 out of pocket. And of course, everyone’s experience is different.
In my post, I said I personally spent only £5, one time, for my scan pictures. Everything else was free at the point of receiving care, and I said I was grateful for that.
I even mentioned that we pay National Insurance and taxes.
But from the comments, it’s very clear that some people didn’t read the entire post before rushing to tell me, “It’s not free! You pay tax! You pay NI! You pay IHS!” 😂😂
My dear, I KNOW! 😂
The taxes and contributions we make help fund public services like healthcare, education, policing, infrastructure, transport and pensions.
So yes, I pay into the system, and I’m still grateful that when I needed maternity care, I wasn’t handed a huge bill at the point of receiving that care.
Then another group kept mentioning the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Yes, the IHS exists and many migrants pay it. But that still doesn’t change what I actually paid out of pocket for my maternity care.
And some of you called me a newcomer. 😂
Someone’s father even called me Oponu. 🤣🤣🤣
