Troops Repel Terrorists, Rescue Injured Civilian in Sokoto

Troops of the Nigerian Army under 8 Division Garrison, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services, have repelled suspected terrorists during a security operation in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 2:50 a.m. on May 14 following intelligence reports on terrorist activities around Lugu Village in the area.

The troops reportedly made contact with the armed suspects and engaged them in a gun battle, forcing the attackers to flee toward the Bafarawa axis.

Following the encounter, troops conducted further exploitation operations around Danzanke in Modachi Village and along a riverbank near a damaged bridge within the general area.

During the operation, troops rescued a civilian who had sustained gunshot wounds.

The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while security operatives continued clearance and patrol operations across the affected communities to track the fleeing suspects and prevent further terrorist activities.

FCT Area Council Speaker, aide die in autocrash

The Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, has died following a fatal road crash.

Ibwa died hours after the accident, while his aide, who shares the same name, Ibrahim Ibwa, died on the spot.

It was gathered that a third occupant of the vehicle sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

The incident occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Sheda village along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.

According to sources, the Speaker’s Mercedes-Benz was involved in a head-on collision with a Sino truck travelling in the opposite direction.

One source said the Speaker was initially taken to Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada before being referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he later passed away.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who participated in the rescue operation confirmed the crash. He said one victim died at the scene, while the two others were rushed to the hospital.

He added that the deceased’s co**se has been deposited at the Legend Hospital mortuary in Gwagwalada.

The FRSC official said that the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali, where they had attended a political meeting, when the collision occurred.

The Speaker was buried on Thursday, May 14, 2026, according to Islamic rites in his hometown, Ibwa community, in the Gwagwalada Area Council.

APC Postpones House of Reps Primaries, Releases Fresh 2027 Timetable

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has postponed its House of Representatives primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections and released a fresh timetable for the exercise.

The party announced that the House of Representatives primaries earlier scheduled to hold this week will now take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to the party, the adjustment affects only the House of Representatives primary election, while other previously announced dates for the Senate, State House of Assembly, governorship and presidential primaries remain unchanged.

Morka explained that the revised timetable was approved by the party leadership as part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 polls.

Under the new schedule released by the ruling party, the House of Representatives primaries will now hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The Senate primary election is expected to take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the State House of Assembly primaries have been fixed for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The APC also confirmed that its governorship primary election will hold on Thursday, May 21, 2026, while the presidential primary is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The party, however, did not give detailed reasons for the postponement of the House of Representatives exercise.
