The dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on this platform is seeing people celebrate the fact that people are unfollowing an influencer they don’t like.
Read on, and I’ll tell you why I think it’s the dumbest thing.
Days ago, after Verydarkblackman spoke out about the Psquare issue, VDM posted a video where he alleged that about 13,000 people had unfollowed him, and everywhere blew up.
But here’s the thing.
Let’s assume that about 13,000 people actually unfollowed him, which is possible. More than 13,000 people will definitely follow him too.
Sometimes, it could even be 13,000 × 3, 13,000 × 5 or even 13,000 × 7.
I’m saying this based on experience.
I have gone viral many times on this platform, and during those viral periods, some people unfollowed me. But ironically, those were also the periods when I gained the most followers.
That’s why I don’t hesitate to block people.
Because if I block you, you block me or you unfollowed, it simply means that you are not my targetted audience.
And it's a win win for both of us.
So, sometimes, when you come under my post to say that you want to block me, I'll end up being the one to block you before you even do it.
Because I simply don’t care.
Now, another reason I told you that celebrating someone’s followers leaving them is one of the dumbest things is this:
The UN’s mid-year 2026 projection puts the world’s population at about 8.301 billion people.
And out of these 8.3 billion people, DataReportal and We Are Social reported that about 5.79 billion people were using social media as of April 2026. That is roughly 70% of the world’s population.
With these statistics, do you logically think you are making any sense when you say you want to unfollow or even block someone, especially someone like VDM?
Do you really think your unfollow is going to hurt him?
Even if 13,000 people leave today, another 13,000 or even 100,000 could discover him same time you are Unfollowing or blocking him.
Or do you think he grew from 0 followers to over 5million followers and still counting, and you think nobody ever unfollowed him all these while? Funny.
Social media doesn’t work like a village where everybody knows everybody.
There are billions of people on these platforms.
So when I see people celebrating, “I have unfollowed him!” or “I have blocked him!” as though they have dealt a devastating blow to the person, I just laugh.
Hmmmm… it doesn’t make sense to me o. 🤷♂️
But if it makes sense to you, by my guest.
