THE GIANT CALLED RESENTMENT
Helena's world crumbled the day Gloria, a fellow member of her Cell Group, falsely accused her of having an illicit affair with a married brother from another group. The rumors spread like wildfire, touching every corner of her life: her church, her street, her family, and her workplace. As a simple and emotional person who hated conflict, Helena was left shattered, unable to defend herself against the tidal wave of whispers and judgmental glances. Though the truth eventually surfaced, clearing her name, the scars ran deep. Gloria's actions left Helena wrestling with a far bigger enemy: resentment.
This "giant" of resentment is a crawler, sneaking into hearts wounded by pain, injustice, and betrayal. Like Helena, many hold onto bitterness, replaying the hurtful moments, fueling anger, and poisoning relationships. Resentment promises justice, but delivers isolation. It blinds us to forgiveness, traps us in the past, and lets the offender control our emotions long after the incident.
Helena's struggle to let go of her resentment toward Gloria is a battle many face. But here's the truth: holding onto it only empowers the pain. Releasing it doesn't mean Gloria's actions were okay; it means Helena chooses freedom. Forgiveness isn't for the offender—it’s for the offended. It’s a choice to break chains, not to excuse wrongdoing.
Confronting this giant requires courage. Acknowledge the hurt, let emotions surface, but don’t camp there. Shift focus to empathy: Gloria, too, may be battling unseen wounds. Choose to bless, even if the other doesn’t deserve it. Fill the space resentment occupied with love, peace, and purpose.
Helena’s story doesn’t end with bitterness. In letting go, she found strength. The giant of resentment shrinks when we refuse it power. Will you let go, like Helena, to find freedom? 😊
