GVN SPEAKS: KUJE NEEDS PEACE, NOT POLITICAL WAR
A MESSAGE OF RESPONSIBILITY, TOLERANCE AND UNITY TO THE PEOPLE OF KUJE
Dear People of Kuje,
At a time when emotions are rising over a controversial statement attributed to the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Gbagyi Voice Network (GVN) believes it is important to speak—not as a supporter of any politician or political party, but as a voice for peace, truth, responsible citizenship and community unity.
Let us be very clear:
GVN is not here to defend anybody.
GVN is not here to condemn anybody.
GVN is not here to promote APC, PDP, ADC, Labour or any other political party.
We are here to say something more important:
LET US NOT ALLOW POLITICS TO DESTROY KUJE.
The reported statement has generated anger, debate and strong reactions. Those who feel offended have the right to express their concerns peacefully.
But disagreement must never become insults, threats, character assassination or attacks against the person involved.
At the same time, public office carries responsibility.
When a statement made by a public official creates fear, anger or misunderstanding among citizens, clarification and reassurance are better than confrontation.
This is why GVN respectfully calls for calm, clarification and dialogue.
TO THE PEOPLE OF KUJE:
You have the right to your political opinion.
You have the right to support the party of your choice.
You have the right to disagree with a public official.
But please exercise those rights with dignity and restraint.
Do not abuse.
Do not threaten.
Do not spread information you cannot verify.
Do not turn political disagreement into ethnic, religious or community conflict.
TO OUR POLITICAL LEADERS:
Leadership requires patience.
People will disagree with you.
People will criticise you.
Some will support you while others will oppose you.
The strength of leadership is demonstrated by how you respond when people disagree with you.
Where words have caused concern, clarification can calm the situation.
Where there is disagreement, dialogue can build understanding.
Where there are allegations, facts should prevail.
TO THOSE CRITICISING THE CHAIRMAN:
You can challenge a statement without destroying a person.
Criticise the words.
Question the policy.
Demand accountability.
But do not dehumanise the individual.
And to those defending him:
Defending someone should never mean insulting or threatening those who disagree with you.
TO THE YOUTHS:
Please remember that you will inherit the community after today's politicians have moved on.
Do not allow Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp or any other platform to turn political disagreement into hatred.
A comment can be deleted.
A post can disappear.
But the damage caused by violence may remain for generations.
🕊️ GVN'S POSITION
We believe that:
No citizen should be threatened because of political choice.
No public official should be subjected to personal abuse because of controversy.
No allegation should be treated as fact without verification.
No political disagreement should be allowed to destroy community peace.
And nobody is above accountability or below human dignity.
Kuje is bigger than one man.
Kuje is bigger than one party.
Kuje is bigger than one election.
Kuje is home.
Tomorrow, the people who are arguing today may still meet in the market, at work, at school, at places of worship and in their neighbourhoods.
So before we press “POST,” “SHARE” or “COMMENT,” let us ask ourselves:
“Will what I am about to say bring Kuje closer to peace—or push Kuje closer to conflict?”
Let us choose our words carefully.
Let us demand accountability peacefully.
Let us defend democracy responsibly.
Let us respect one another.
And above all—
🕊️ LET PEACE PREVAIL IN KUJE.
