Five Suspected Kidnappers Arrested in Kwara with Cash Running into Thousands of Dollars

Security forces in Kwara State have arrested five suspected kidnappers after a fierce gun battle near Ero Dam, Odo Owa, a border area between Oke-Ero and Ekiti Local Government Areas.

According to intelligence sources, the suspects had been under surveillance for weeks over allegations of kidnapping, extortion, and armed attacks. Acting on a tip-off, a combined team of soldiers, local vigilantes, and hunters launched a dawn operation that led to their capture.

Bundles of cash in naira and U.S. dollars, believed to be ransom proceeds, were recovered during the raid. Security officials confirmed two of the suspects as Bunmi, an indigene of Odo Owa, and Ramoni, of Fulani origin. The other three remain under interrogation, pending official disclosure of their identities.

The arrests sparked outrage among residents who alleged the gang had operated unchecked for years. In an outburst of “community justice,” angry youths set ablaze vehicles and properties linked to the suspects, while demanding a stronger and permanent security presence in the area.

Security experts say the case highlights the growing threat of violent crime in rural Kwara and the increasing reliance on grassroots vigilante groups to complement overstretched government security agencies. Authorities have since reinforced patrols around Odo Owa and nearby settlements to prevent reprisals and restore calm.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other agencies are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.

KWARA SOUTH SECURITY UPDATE

*PRESS RELEASE*
From the National Executive of Ajase-Ipo Descendants Union (ADU)

The Ajase-Ipo Descendants Union (ADU) wishes to inform the general public, under the directive of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ismail Yahaya Atoloye Muhammed, Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, that the Kara Market shall continue to operate on every official market day.

Kara Market, being a vital hub of commerce and livelihood, will remain open for all traders and buyers to lawfully conduct their businesses without hindrance.

The recent decision to unilaterally shut down Kara markets across Kwara South without due consultation with the traditional rulers of the affected communities is, to say the least, reckless and a fundamental breach of protocol. Such an action is uncivilized, undemocratic, and stands condemned in its entirety. The Local Government Chairmen are reminded that they are not military administrators, and governance must always respect established institutions and community stakeholders.

Ajase-Ipo remains a peaceful and law-abiding community, firmly committed to unity, order, and development. His Royal Majesty has further enjoined all indigenes and residents to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious persons or movements within the community. This shared responsibility is key to ensuring that no one falls victim to kidnapping or any form of insecurity.

The Ajase-Ipo Descendants Union fully aligns with the directive of His Royal Majesty and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the safety, progress, and prosperity of our dear community.

*Signed*
Hon. Balogun Monsuru Alabi

🔒 Security Update: Kwara South LGs Order Shutdown of All Kara Markets 🔒

Sequel to the prevailing security realities in Kwara South Senatorial District, the Forum of Seven Local Government Chairmen has directed the immediate closure of all Kara (cattle) markets within the District, effective Friday, September 19, 2025, until further notice.

👉 All other produce markets must also close by 6:00 pm on market days.

This painful but necessary decision came after an extensive stakeholders’ engagement and reviews. While invading criminals have been weakened in recent weeks, cleanup operations by the military and hybrid operatives are still ongoing.

This collective decision by the LG Chairmen is a proactive step to strengthen security architecture, protect lives and properties, and ensure the safety of residents, traders, and commuters.

Though the economic impact is acknowledged, safety has been prioritized over short-term inconveniences. The decision will be reviewed periodically, and markets will reopen once a conducive environment is guaranteed.

The Council Chairmen, alongside the State Government and security agencies, reassure residents of their commitment to restoring lasting peace to Kwara South.

Signed:

Executive Chairman, Ifelodun LGA – Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf

Executive Chairman, Isin LGA – Hon. Benjamin Lanre Jolayemi

Nigeria Launches Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre in Abuja

Yesterday, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, and the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, inspected the newly-built Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Abuja.

The facility was unveiled before journalists and stakeholders, with technical partners providing a detailed walkthrough of its cutting-edge operations.

This landmark achievement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which places emphasis on transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public service.

With high-speed machines now installed, the NIS can personalise over 1,000 passports in just one hour. In comparison, the service previously averaged only 250–300 passports daily. This means that in just five working hours, between 4,500 and 5,000 passports can now be produced — a huge leap forward for Nigerians seeking travel documents.

For the first time in 62 years, passport production has been centralised under one roof, ending the practice of multiple production centres across the globe. Notably, this strategic project came at no cost to the government, yet it promises to significantly reduce waiting times and eliminate needless delays in passport acquisition.

This development signals a new era for Nigeria’s immigration services and demonstrates how infrastructure-driven reforms can enhance the citizen experience.

🚨 Dangote Refinery vs DAPPMAN: Clash Over N1.5 Trillion Subsidy Demand 🚨

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has accused the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) of demanding an annual subsidy of N1.505 trillion to align depot prices with the refinery’s gantry rates.

📌 The refinery explained that based on Nigeria’s daily consumption of 40m litres of PMS and 15m litres of AGO, the subsidy would translate to over ₦1.5 trillion yearly, which they are being pressured to absorb or pass on to Nigerians.

According to Dangote:
❌ No subsidy of ₦70/litre for freight, NIMASA, NPA & charges.
❌ No ₦5/litre pumping cost discount.
✅ Marketers are free to lift directly from the refinery and benefit from its logistics-free system.

📊 From June–September, Dangote exported 3.2m tonnes of fuel, while marketers imported 3.6m tonnes, which the refinery described as “dumping” harmful to Nigeria’s economy.

Dangote reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s growth while refusing a return to subsidy practices that have historically drained the nation. 🇳🇬

🔥💎 Gold Heist in Paris Museum! 💎🔥

Paris has been rocked by a shocking museum robbery! Thieves broke into the National Natural History Museum and stole native gold specimens valued at €600,000 ($700,000).

These weren’t just ordinary gold pieces, they were rare, unrefined natural gold samples, part of France’s priceless national collection. While the value of the raw gold is huge, experts say the heritage loss is beyond measure. 💔

The daring heist saw intruders use blow torches and angle grinders to force their way in. Even more alarming, reports say the museum’s security system had been disabled by a cyberattack weeks earlier, leaving it vulnerable.

This theft adds to a worrying trend:
🔹 €6.5M Chinese porcelain stolen in Limoges earlier this month.
🔹 18th-century works smashed and stolen from Cognacq-Jay museum.
🔹 Millions in jewellery taken in Saône-et-Loire.

France’s treasures are under siege, and the world is asking: Who’s behind these cultural crimes?

🇳🇬🌾 Nigeria Secures $1B Afreximbank Deal for Farmers 🌍💰

In a historic move, the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has signed a $1 billion partnership with Afreximbank to support the National Smallholder Farmers Fund.

The agreement, sealed at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) in Algiers, will provide low-cost credit, mechanisation, and structured market access for farmers, empowering them from production to market.

This initiative, endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the National Food Security Fund, is set to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector, strengthen food security, and build sustainable agribusiness ventures.

📌 According to BOA’s MD, Mr. Ayo Sotinrin, the collaboration is a strategic step toward a prosperous agricultural future, while Afreximbank’s EVP, Mrs. Kanayo Awani, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to smallholder farmers and Nigeria’s economic growth.

🌱 With this deal, Nigerian farmers are not just growing food, they’re growing the future.
