THE PERFECT MAID — EPISODE 15
Grace looked at Emma, but for the first time, she couldn't find the right words to say. Her eyes moved from Emma to David, then to Cynthia, who was standing quietly in the corner. The room suddenly became so silent that Grace could hear her own heartbeat. She knew one wrong word could expose everything.
Emma folded her arms and stared directly at her. “Grace, I asked you a simple question. What exactly did you bring into my house?” Grace swallowed hard and forced a nervous smile. “Emma, you are misunderstanding me. I only came here because I wanted to—”
“Wanted to do what?” David interrupted sharply. He stepped closer to Grace and looked at the black bag in her hand. “Because you have been acting strangely for weeks, and now you suddenly show up in my house with a bag you don't want anybody to see?”
Grace immediately pulled the bag closer to herself. “David, please, don't make this bigger than it is. There is nothing inside this bag that concerns you.” But David's eyes narrowed. “Then open it.”
Grace froze.
Cynthia's heart dropped. She knew exactly what was inside that bag, and she knew that if David saw it, there would be no way to protect Grace anymore. She quietly looked at Emma, hoping she wouldn't notice the fear written all over her face.
Emma noticed.
“Cynthia,” Emma called suddenly.
Cynthia looked up. “Yes, ma?”
“Why do you look frightened?”
Cynthia opened her mouth, but no words came out. Grace quickly stepped in. “She's probably just tired. You know how much work she has been doing around the house.”
Emma turned toward Grace slowly. “I wasn't talking to you.”
Grace went silent.
Emma walked toward Cynthia and looked straight into her eyes. “Cynthia, is there something you know that you're afraid to tell me?”
Cynthia's eyes filled with tears. She wanted to tell Emma everything. She wanted to warn her that Grace was planning to destroy her marriage. But before she could speak, Grace suddenly dropped the bag on the floor.
Everyone turned.
The bag fell open.
For a few seconds, nobody moved.
Then David bent down and picked up the small package that had fallen out.
Grace's face went pale.
David looked at the package, then at Grace. “What is this?”
Grace rushed forward to take it from him, but David pulled his hand away.
“Don't touch it.”
Emma stared at Grace in disbelief. “Grace… what were you planning to do with this?”
Grace's lips trembled. “Emma, please. Let me explain.”
“Explain what?” Emma's voice shook with anger. “You came into my home secretly carrying something you didn't want anyone to see, and now you want me to believe this is innocent?”
Grace looked at Cynthia.
Cynthia immediately looked away.
That was when Grace realized something terrīble.
Cynthia was no longer willing to protect her.
Grace's expression changed. She turned toward Cynthia and whispered, “After everything I did for you…”
Cynthia finally looked at her. Tears rolled down her cheeks.
“No, Grace,” she said softly. “You didn't do anything for me. You only threatened me.”
The room went completely silent.
Emma looked from Cynthia to Grace. “Threatened you?”
Cynthia covered her mouth, realizing she had said too much.
Grace's eyes widened. “Cynthia, be careful.”
But this time, Cynthia didn't look afraid.
She stepped forward.
“I'm sorry, ma. I can't keep lying anymore.”
Emma's eyes widened as Cynthia continued, “Grace has been planning this for a long time. She wanted to destroy your marriage and make David leave you.”
David stared at Grace in shock.
Grace suddenly turned toward the door.
But David moved quickly and stood in front of it.
“Where are you going, Grace?”
Grace stopped.
David's voice became cold.
“You are not leaving this house until you tell us the truth.”
Grace slowly turned around.
And for the first time, the woman who had been so confident suddenly looked completely trapped.
