Today is Father’s Day. And my heart keeps going back to one film: The Pursuit of Happyness.
It’s not just a movie, it’s a mirror.
A mirror of what so many fathers go through in silence.
Chris Gardner, a man with nothing but his son and his will to keep going. No home. No money. Just pain, persistence, and love.
There’s a scene where he and his son sleep in a public restroom because they have nowhere else to go. He locks the door, holds his boy tight, and fights back tears because he can’t afford to break.
That moment stays with me.
Because it’s not fiction for many fathers. It’s reality.
Fathers who swallow their pain.
Who go without, so their children never have to.
Who carry the weight of the world and still show up with a smile.
Not because it’s easy but because love won’t let them quit.
Will Smith gave the performance of a lifetime, but it’s the truth of that story that hits the hardest. A father’s love, raw, unfiltered, unshakable.
There’s a line in the film that says,
"You got a dream, you gotta protect it."
So many fathers protect dreams they may never live to see, just to give their kids a fighting chance. That’s the kind of love that doesn’t always make headlines. But it’s the kind that changes lives.
Today, I honor every father who fought — even when no one saw.
Who stayed, even when it would’ve been easier to walk away.
Who loved with everything they had, even when it wasn’t much.
To every dad out there…
We see you.
We thank you.
We love you.
Happy Father’s Day. 🖤
