HISTORIC NEW YAM FESTIVAL IN KADO, ABUJA
September 19th will forever remain indelible in the history of Kado and the Igbo community in the FCT, Abuja.
The Palace of His Royal Highness, Eze Emmanuel Eke, Odokamaa 1 of Igbos in Kado, FCT Abuja, hosted its annual New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) in grand style.
The epoch-making celebration attracted over 50 Igbo Kings (Ezes) in Abuja, including IBE NWOSO the highly revered Eze Igbo 1 of Abuja - the King of all Igbo Kings in Abuja - and over 100 Onowus and Cabinet Chiefs from different kingdoms across the FCT.
The event also drew dignitaries from far and near, sons and daughters of Igbo land, friends and well-wishers.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY:
In a historic moment, the Palace conferred a Chieftaincy Title on an illustrious son of Ebonyi State, Chief Mathias Nubo, who was officially crowned as ONOWU 1 OF KADO.
This is a monumental win and a thing of great joy for all Ebonyians in Abuja.
This year's festival stands as one of the biggest New Yam Celebrations ever witnessed in Abuja, judging by the unprecedented number of kings, chiefs and dignitaries in attendance.
The celebration was further electrified with colourful displays by different cultural dance groups and masquerades.
