Afrobeats Star Davido Makes Official Entry Into Nigerian Politics, Joins Accord Party.

Afrobeats sensation David “Davido” Adeleke has taken a significant step into formal politics by announcing his decision to join the Accord Party in Nigeria. The globally popular musician disclosed on his verified X account that he plans to travel to Osun State to collect his party membership card, marking the beginning of his active involvement in partisan politics.

Davido’s move into politics is closely tied to the recent shift of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who earlier this month left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and adopted the Accord Party as his political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The governor’s defection was driven by internal leadership issues within the PDP at the national level and a desire to pursue his re-election under a new banner.

In the social media announcement, Davido wrote that he would be live in Osun to pick up his Accord Party membership card at Imole House in Osogbo, underscoring his readiness to formalize his political affiliation. His declaration has generated widespread attention across social media and traditional news outlets, highlighting how celebrity influence intersects with Nigerian politics.

Analysts and observers note that Davido’s registration with the Accord Party may offer fresh visibility and momentum to the party’s profile, especially as his uncle prepares for another electoral contest. The governor has already secured the party’s nomination for the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial race, amplifying the significance of Davido’s political alignment.

Davido, widely known for hit songs like “Unavailable” and his leadership of the DMW record label, has historically supported his uncle’s political campaigns. His newly declared political affiliation continues a pattern of close family and political collaboration, marking an important shift from entertainment into formal civic engagement.

FULL LIST: EFCC Links Ex-AGF Abubakar Malami to 41 Properties Worth Over ₦212 Billion, Files 16-Count Money Laundering Charge

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced 41 high-value properties across Kebbi, Kano and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Abubakar Malami, the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, with an estimated combined value of about ₦212.89 billion.

According to documents released on 24 December 2025, the properties include hotels, residential buildings, lands, schools, manufacturing facilities and a printing press, located primarily in Kebbi State where assets worth about ₦162.2 billion were identified. These include multiple sites of Rayhaan University and its facilities, an agro-allied factory, Azbir branded properties such as hotels and commercial facilities, as well as several houses believed to belong to Malami and his close relatives.

In Kano State, the EFCC traced properties valued at over ₦16 billion, including the Zeennoor Hotel, associated mosque facilities, Rayhaan Hotel and Gym, and a residential property registered as the wife’s house on Ahmadu Bello Way in Kano. Meanwhile in the FCT, assets totalling approximately ₦34.7 billion were identified, featuring high-end hotels in Jabi and Maitama, a duplex in Maitama’s Amazon Street, 42 bungalow units in Efab Estate, and the Harmonia Hotels in Garki.

The federal government has also filed a 16-count charge against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, for alleged money laundering offences under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, alleging that the duo concealed the origin of substantial sums through corporate structures and property acquisitions between 2022 and 2025.

The disclosures come amid intensified EFCC probes into Malami’s financial activities during his eight years in office, with the commission conducting searches at his homes and offices in Abuja and Kebbi earlier in December as part of the ongoing investigation. The case has drawn widespread public attention, with authorities emphasising accountability and transparency in the handling of public office and assets.

Operation Whirl Stroke Troops Thwart Kidnapping on Otukpo–Enugu Highway, Rescue Passengers

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE, have successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Otukpo–Enugu Expressway in Benue State, rescuing several passengers from armed criminals during a late-night operation.

The incident occurred on 22 December 2025 at about 10:00 pm after troops received a distress call and swiftly mobilised to the Amoda axis of Ohimini Local Government Area. The assailants had emerged from the bush, temporarily occupied an existing checkpoint, and stopped two 18-seater commercial buses travelling from Jos, Plateau State, to Ibadan, Oyo State.

Upon arrival, troops engaged the kidnappers in a firefight, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bush. Fifteen passengers were initially rescued and handed over to the Nigerian Police Division in Otukpo, while several others were reported missing at the early stage of the operation.

Follow-up search and rescue efforts by the troops led to the successful rescue of five additional adults and all four minors earlier declared missing. These rescued victims have since been handed over to the Police Area Command in Otukpo, while efforts continue to locate the remaining missing passenger.

Commending the troops for their swift response and professionalism, the Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across its area of responsibility. He also extended Christmas and Yuletide greetings to residents of Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States, urging unity, peace, and adherence to the values of love, humility, and compassion during and beyond the festive season.

Sanwo-Olu Swears in Speaker Obasa’s Son as Agege Local Government Chairman

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially sworn in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, the son of Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area in a ceremony held on Monday at Lagos House, Ikeja. The event also featured the inauguration of Toyin Adejimiwa as a Permanent Secretary in the state’s civil service.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, who had previously served in an acting capacity following the medical leave and eventual resignation of the former Agege LGA Chairman, Tunde Azeez, was formally confirmed to lead the council. Azeez stepped down citing persistent health challenges, prompting local legislators to elevate Obasa in line with council procedures and to avoid a leadership gap.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of community-focused governance, urging the new Agege chairman to prioritise grassroots development, social cohesion, and alignment with the broader development vision of the Lagos State Government. He emphasised that local governments are the tier of government closest to the people and require responsive and inclusive leadership.

The governor also highlighted key qualities expected of public office holders, including discipline, performance, and accountability. He congratulated both Obasa and Adejimiwa, expressing confidence that they would uphold high standards of service and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress.

In his remarks, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve with dedication. He reiterated his commitment to enhancing governance and service delivery in Agege LGA, promising to work collaboratively with community stakeholders and align his administration with the aspirations of residents.

Indian Doctor Under Investigation After Alleged Assault on Hospital Patient

An Indian doctor is under investigation after allegedly assaulting a seriously ill patient at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, northern India. The incident, which was captured on video and circulated widely online, has sparked public outrage and prompted official action by hospital authorities.

The patient, identified as Arjun Panwar, had reportedly visited the hospital to undergo medical tests after experiencing breathing difficulties. According to Mr Panwar, the altercation began when the doctor spoke to him in a rude and dismissive manner while he was receiving treatment.

Mr Panwar said he had just undergone a bronchoscopy and was struggling to breathe when he asked for oxygen. He alleged that instead of assisting him, the doctor questioned his admission status, leading to a heated exchange. When Mr Panwar asked the doctor to speak to him respectfully, the situation reportedly escalated.

The patient further claimed that the doctor became aggressive after he questioned whether the same tone would be used when speaking to family members. He alleged that the doctor then physically attacked him while he was still on his hospital bed and unwell.

Following the incident, a large crowd gathered at IGMC, demanding strict action against the accused doctor. The hospital administration has since set up a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. Dr Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC Shimla, confirmed that a police complaint has also been filed and that the committee’s findings will be submitted soon.

Trump Administration Recalls U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria in Global Diplomatic Overhaul

The United States has recalled its ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, as part of a wide-ranging diplomatic shake-up ordered by President Donald Trump. The move forms part of a broader effort by the administration to realign U.S. diplomatic representation across several regions of the world.

The recall of the ambassador to Nigeria is one of dozens affecting American diplomatic missions globally. Nearly 30 career diplomats serving as ambassadors or in senior embassy roles have been withdrawn, signaling a major reset of U.S. foreign service leadership under the Trump administration’s policy direction.

Africa has emerged as the region most affected by the overhaul. Alongside Nigeria, ambassadors serving in several African countries have also been recalled, reflecting a significant restructuring of U.S. diplomatic presence on the continent.

Officials at the U.S. State Department have described the recalls as a routine practice, noting that ambassadors serve at the discretion of the president. They explained that the changes are intended to ensure that U.S. envoys abroad are fully aligned with the administration’s foreign policy priorities.

The development has sparked attention among diplomats and analysts, who say the absence of a substantive ambassador could influence bilateral engagements. For Nigeria and the United States, the recall comes at a time when both countries continue to cooperate on security, economic ties, and regional stability issues.
