Chapter 6

As Chloe walked into the cafe, she was taken aback to see Xavier sitting by the window, sipping a latte. She hadn't expected to run into him, and her initial instinct was to pretend she hadn't seen him. However, Xavier caught sight of her and approached her, asking if they'd met before. Chloe was taken aback by his question, feeling like he'd forgotten everything that had happened between them.

She excused herself, feeling a mix of emotions: anger, hurt, and confusion. When she got home, she couldn't shake off the feeling of being blindsided. She burst into tears, burying her face in her pillow. Who could she turn to? Who would understand her pain?

The next day, Chloe considered returning to the coffee shop to confront Xavier and get some answers. But before she could carry out her plan, Karen caught up with her. "Hey, priceless jewel, where are you off to?" Karen asked, her voice full of concern.

Chloe hesitated, unsure of how to respond. "Oh, I'm just going to meet a friend," she said, trying to brush it off. Karen's eyes lit up with curiosity. "A friend? Do I know this friend of yours?"

Chloe panicked, not wanting to reveal the truth. "It's not that important, Karen. I'll tell you about it later. She's just a friend, really." Karen looked skeptical but didn't press the issue. Instead, she offered to accompany Chloe, who politely declined.

As they parted ways, Karen reminded Chloe to take care of herself and promised to be there if she needed anything. Chloe nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt. Little did Karen know what was really going on. So they parted ways,

As Chloe approached the bartender, unsure how to ask her question. "Excuse me, sir. The guy who was here yesterday, does he come often?" The bartender looked at her expectantly. "Which guy? We get all sorts of people in here every day."

Chloe tried to describe him. "He was sipping on a latte, white, masculine, with charming features. His face is quite distinctive." The bartender shook his head, looking amused. "Are you hitting on him?" Chloe's eyes widened in surprise.

The bartender continued, "Honestly, I haven't seen him around here before. I don't remember you from yesterday either. I just serve drinks, I don't memorize faces." Chloe felt a pang of disappointment and frustration. How was she supposed to find him again?

A week later, Karen invited Chloe to a friend's party. "Come on, it'll be fun! Mark's birthday party is going to be lit. You'll love it." Chloe was hesitant, feeling out of place. "What if they don't like me? I feel so young compared to them."

Karen reassured her. "You're pretty, and if they don't like you, it's probably jealousy. You're my lady, Chloe, and that's all that matters." Karen took Chloe shopping to get her ready for the party. Chloe ended up looking stunning in a short red dress, red heels, and her blonde hair in a ponytail.

At the party, all eyes were on them as they arrived. Mark, the birthday boy, welcomed them with a hug for Karen and a kiss on the cheek for Chloe. "What a beautiful damsel we have here! Greetings, Chloe." Chloe smiled and handed him a gift.

As they sat down with the rest of the group, David, a friend, complimented Chloe on her looks. "You look beautiful, Chloe." His girlfriend, Melanie, cut in with a sarcastic remark. "Yeah, she's trying to fit in these days." The group laughed, and Melanie continued to tease Chloe, making snide comments about her appearance.

Chloe managed a smile, trying to brush off the mockery. Karen tried to make her feel more comfortable, but it was clear that Chloe was the target of the group's jokes., Chloe felt unease but pretended all was cool, just then she noticed Xavier seated at the other end of the table a bit distant from them, she felt a sharp pain below her belly"what is he doing here(she questioned herself) oh my God, is this guy after my life!?, God please". Then Xavier got up moving towards thier direction, immediately Chloe stood up from Karen's legs and sat down on the chair. "Is everything fine? (They asked)
"i guess our holy mary learnt she needed to remind us how holy she still is(Camnie teased too), meanwhile, all Chloe was thinking at the moment was why Xavier walking towards their direction and how is he here again...

Chapter 5

"Yes, we do want the best for our only child," Mrs. Emily replied. Mr. Clerk turned to his wife and continued, "Chloe will be finishing college soon. Maybe we should send her to visit her grandma for a change of scenery. It might help take her mind off Xavier." Mrs. Emily looked concerned. "But she's our only child. Can we really send her away like that?" Mr. Clerk reassured her, "Just for a few months. It's not forever, and it'll be good for her. We want her to be happy."

Mrs. Emily eventually agreed, and they discussed the idea with Chloe. At first, she was hesitant, but the prospect of visiting her grandma won her over. They didn't reveal their true intentions – to help her move on from Xavier. After a few days of preparation, Chloe left for her grandma's place. Though it was hard for her parents to see her go, they knew it was for the best.

At her grandma's, Chloe slowly began to heal. Her grandma's love and care helped ease her pain. Weeks later, her grandma encouraged her to explore their new surroundings. "My dear, you've been cooped up at home for too long. New Olines is a beautiful place to discover," she said. Chloe took her grandma's advice and started visiting local spots – game centers, amusement parks, and bars.

One evening, while out, Chloe bumped into a handsome young man with a charming smile. "Hey, angel," he said, "how come I've never seen such a beautiful damsel in this place?" Chloe was taken aback but couldn't help but notice the guy's charming demeanor. She slightly smiled back and turned to go. The boy didn't persist, but instead let her walk on, uttering loudly, "Hope I'll be seeing you here again. My name's Karen. Have a nice day."

Chloe turned but didn't respond. She just left, having avoided the place for a week later, she decided to try a gym. While exercising, the same guy walked up to her. As she turned to look at him, she noticed it was Karen. "You again?" she murmured.

Karen smiled, his arms crossed. "Yes, me again. Hey, beautiful. I didn't know you like to gym. Do you come here often?" Chloe cut him off, irritated. "Oh, please, excuse me." She left him standing there, and Karen was taken aback. He wondered how this girl could resist him despite his built physique.

Chloe left the gym and headed home. On her way, some guys tried to attack her, attempting to sn**ch her belongings. Luckily, Karen appeared just in time and scared the hoodlums away. He turned to Chloe and asked, "Are you okay?" Chloe was shaken, her lips trembling. She stood still, unsure of what to do. Karen offered, "Should I take you home? I'm sorry about what happened. I can take you home if you're not feeling yourself right now." Chloe nodded, so Karen walked her home, on reaching home, Chloe's grandma got scared "what happened to her(she asked)
"Not to worry ma'am, am here, there's nothing to be afraid of(he boasted) please rake care of her, I'll take my leave now(he left). So grandma took care of her Chloe all night watching over her, the following day, Karen came to check up on Chloe again, to make sure she's feeling better, and yes she was

"Thank you so much Karen, I feel indebted to you, how do I make it up to you". (Chloe asked)
'Take me out on treat, bills on you then want us to be friends as well(he replied)
''Seriously man!! How that hell,how many things at a time, u sure wanna wreck me down (so both chuckled) I am gonna take you out for a treat but trust me we ain't gonna be friends".
'Hmm you really are a hard nut to crack(he said with so much smile).

So Chloe and Karen actually became friends, Karen was a protector, he could protect Chloe at all cost , Chloe didn't want to trust after what she went through with Xavier, but eventually she felt she could use Karen to officially get rid of Xavier's memories, and Xavier on the other hand made it intentional that he liked her and wanted them to be lovers
"I promise, I won't hurt your feelings Chloe, I'll always be there whenever you want me".he promised
"I don't know what to believe Karen, don't run away like others do". (Chloe replied)
"Never Chloe,I will always stand my your side, to eternity and I will never let anything come in between us"(he assured her).
"Alright Karen". She accepted him, so things continued that way and Chloe finally gave up on Xavier, she started to like Karen alot, Karen was charming, amazing, an entertainer and caring unlike Xavier who could really couple up his feelings or never really liked her, Chloe thought,

After several weeks of their relationship, Chloe's parents asked if she would love to visit them for a short while before returning but she rejected the offer having seen a new lover, they spent almost everytime together and Chloe became extremely happy,

One day, while Karen went with his dad, Chloe decided to visit the bar and guess what!!!

Back to the present!!

The moment Chloe walked in into the Cafe, he didn't expect to see him there!

Chapter 4

Weeks passed, Chloe couldn't reach Xavier, she tried his line but couldn't get him still, Chloe couldn't believe what was happening to her, it felt like her world was falling apart, she didn't know what to think, whether Xavier left her or something bad happened, she couldn't get the answers to this questions, Everything about Xavier's whereabouts were totally blank, as he was suddenly out of all social platforms she couldn't reach him,
Chloe's mum noticed her intense behavior all of a sudden and was concerned as she asked her one day "is everything ok with you Chloe? "
Chloe replied, "I don't know mum, I've been trying Xavi's line for weeks and I can't reach him, neither can I get him on any social media platforms".
"Ouch! Did u try sending him a voice call message? ". She asked concerned
"Yes mum(Chloe cuts in) I've done all that, am just scared, what must have happened to him, he never does this, not try to reach me(lost in thoughts) no Xavi wouldn't ".
"Or maybe they went for a vacation? What do you think (trying to cheer her daughter up) maybe he just wants to surprise you ".
"How mum, if this is a prank then its unbearable for me, I really want to see him, its been 2weeks! ".
"But he left with his mum and sister right, don't you think they went on a vacation ". (Mrs. Emily asked further)
"I hope so mum(she said looking disdain).
"Oh! my child, come here(she said as she widen her arms to welcome Chloe in, so Chloe hugged her).

The next day, Chloe went back to Xavi's apartment and this time, it seems like someone was in, she felt happy than ever and at the same time, couldn't wait to see Xavier so she could pounce on him for treating her that way, she knocked and all of a sudden, someone came by the door, opened it to her, it was a young dark skin woman
"How may I help you "(the lady asked)
Chloe was shocked "umm. please am here to meet Xavi... sorry I mean Xavier ".
*Who's Xavier?(The lady questioned)
"He stays here"(Chloe replied)
"Oops am sure you got the wrong address, I stay here, or maybe if what you are saying is true, then am not sure the person stays here anymore, I actually packed in few days ago(the lady confirmed)
Chloe was alarmed Xavier and his family has packed out, she couldn't what she heard, she stood there, shocked than ever, how could Xavier, off all times, why couldn't he even reach out to her, what were his reasons for doing this, so many questions swirled in her head. She managed to go home, met her parent eating
"Mr Clerk Cants asked her"oh here comes my angel, where were you my angel, come eat with us".
"I don't feel like it, father (tears swelled in her eyes) ".
"What happened Chloe(her mum questioned, raising an alarm, why is my angel crying (she walked up to Chloe)
"They left mum, Xavier left me)"(this time her tears increased)
Her mum didn't want to ask further questions as she didn't want to worsen the whole issue, so she just hugged her daughter tightly.

Later by the day, Mr Clerk was discussing the earlier issue with his wife
"Why didn't you tell me about it before now, you know the dangers in situations like this right?! He never even comes here, do you even know him".
"(Sighed) I just wanted Chloe to be happy, nevertheless I thought the boy liked her too"."This is breaking her, she has refused to have anything since, should i speak to her? ".
So Mrs Emily nodded in affirmation
Then, Mr Clerk went to Chloe's room to talk to her,
(After some explanations, he continued) "you are going to be fine Chloe, he's not worth it, he shouldn't be the reason you are like this, you deserve better, you are my daughter, and a daughter of the Clerks has to be happy ".
"How father, my happiness lies in Xavier, dad, he us my best friend, I like him so so much, I can't imagine myself here without him, am gonna break apart(she sniffed)
Those words felt deep in Mr Clerk's heart, he couldn't realize his only child has gotten so fond of a person to this extent, he was speechless and dumbfounded, he only sat trying to hug his daughter.

After several weeks, Chloe's actions became worse, she couldn't get over Xavier, thinking about the funs they use to have, staring at their pictures and everything, still wondering why Xavier had done all of this, or its all his sister's doing, Chloe kept on questioning herself.

As Chloe's parents watched her struggle to cope with the loss of Xavier, they felt a deep sense of empathy for their daughter. Mr. Clerk turned to his wife and whispered, "Chloe will be finishing college soon. Maybe it's time we sent her to a new environment to take her mind off that boy." Mrs. Emily looked concerned, "But she's our only child, honey. How can we just send her away?" Mr. Clerk reassured her, "It'll be for a few months, and it'll be good for her to experience new things. We want her to be happy, don't we?"

chapter 3

Emma and her mom, Mrs. Thompson were having a conversation
"I don't care, mum," Emma blurted out. "That girl is not good enough for Xavier. She's so not his type. I'll never like her."

Mrs. Thompson cut in, "Stop it, Emma. I've heard enough. Just give her a chance. She seems like a nice young girl."

Emma huffed and left the room to use the restroom.

Meanwhile, Chloe was having a conversation with her mom, Mrs. Emily. "Talk to me, dear. Is everything okay with you?" Mrs. Emily asked.

Chloe asked, "How did you meet dad?"

Mrs. Emily chuckled, "Well, your dad and I met in high school. We both liked each other, and we both went for what we wanted. We confessed our feelings, and luckily, we ended up together."

Chloe asked another question, "Is it fair for a girl to confess her feelings to a guy?"

Mrs. Emily felt uneasy but controlled herself. "It's not always the best decision, but the heart knows what it wants. It's fair to understand if you both share the same feelings before letting it out. Not everything always goes as planned in life."

Chloe smiled and composed herself, shaking her head. "Don't worry, mum. I'm okay."

Mrs. Emily probed further, "Is there any guy in your life you'd like me to know about?"

Chloe's heart raced, and she replied quickly, "Umm... mum, I have to go." She stood up but then turned back and sat beside her mom. "Mum, I like a guy. I like him so much, and I feel he likes me too, but I don't know if it's good enough for me to tell him about my feelings."

Mrs. Emily nodded, "I've been observing you for months. Do you really like him?"

Chloe replied hastily, "Yes, mum. I do!"

Mrs. Emily asked, "If he feels the same, why isn't he telling you anything?"

Chloe replied, "I don't know. I think he's only scared or not confident enough to tell me. Maybe he's scared I'll reject him if I don't feel the same way."

Mrs. Emily assured her, "If you feel that's what's keeping him back, let out your feelings. Definitely, he likes you too." They hugged.

Later, Chloe and Xavier were walking around. Chloe was trying hard to let out her feelings to him. There was a minute of silence before Xavier spoke out, "So, Chloe, is everything cool with you?"

Chloe replied, "Yes... umm... why not? I mean, I'm cool, Xavier. So, how about you? Have you been okay?"

Xavier nodded, "I guess. Umm... I wanted to tell you that you can count on me anytime, any day. I'll always be there for you, okay."

Chloe's heart beat fast as she gulped, "Thank you, Xavier." She managed to force out a smile.

Xavier asked again, "Is there anything you want to tell me?"

Chloe asked, "What will be your reaction if a girl tells you she likes you?"

Xavier chuckled, "I don't know. I guess it depends on if I feel the same way."

Chloe asked another question, "Do you like anyone?"

Xavier replied, "Sure, I do, Chloe. You'll get to know in the meantime."

Chloe's heart skipped a beat. "What if I like you, Xavi? What if I want us to be more than just friends?" she asked, looking into Xavier's eyes.

Both stood looking at each other, and then Chloe started laughing. "I got you right," she said, hitting Xavier with her fist playfully. Xavier smiled, and they both started laughing unnecessarily.

Weeks later, Chloe tried reaching Xavier but couldn't. She was scared and worried. She went to his apartment but found out they were out of town, Chloe was astonished

Chapter 2

Xavier was a stunningly handsome guy, the kind that could effortlessly capture everyone's attention. His chiseled features, coily hair, dimples, and piercing blue eyes made him almost irresistible. Chloe, on the other hand, was also a beautiful young woman.

For several days, Chloe couldn't shake off the memory of their encounter. She found herself looking forward to seeing him again, often taking walks in the hopes of running into him. Fate seemed to smile upon her when she spotted him walking his dog again.

This time, when Xavier approached her, Chloe tried to play it cool, but her eyes betrayed her excitement. "Hey, it's you again!" Xavier exclaimed, a bright smile spreading across his face.

Chloe turned to him, a hint of a smile on her lips. "Oh, you again."

They stood there for a moment, silence between them. Then Xavier broke the silence, his voice low and smooth. "So, you stay around here?"

Chloe nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes."

Xavier's eyes lit up. "That means we're next-door neighbors! Cool." He extended his hand, his gaze locked onto hers. "I'm Xavier, but my friends call me Xavi."

Chloe took his hand, feeling a spark of electricity as their palms touched. "I'm Chloe. I guess I'm still Chloe to my friends," she said with a smile.

Xavier chuckled, his eyes still fixed on Chloe. "Well, Chloe is fine by me. So, what does that make us... friends, right?"

They both laughed, their hands still clasped together.

As they spent more time together, Xavier got to know Chloe better, and they quickly became inseparable friends. To Chloe, Xavier was everything she had ever dreamed of – kind, attentive, and charming. She found herself lost in his eyes, captivated by his smile.

Meanwhile, Chloe's parents began to notice a change in her. She no longer complained about being bored, and her smile seemed to linger longer. She would often talk to herself or go out without saying a word,
leaving her parents wondering what was behind her newfound happiness, getting to know each other
as the days went by, Chloe and Xavier grew closer, their friendship blossoming into something more. They would spend hours talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Chloe found herself opening up to Xavier in ways she never thought possible.

As Chloe and Xavier's bond deepened, Chloe felt maybe this friendship should blossom into a stronger bond hoping both could fall for each other and become lovers, she tried opening up to Xavier about her feelings but couldn't, thinking he feels the same As Chloe spent more time with Xavier, she found herself falling deeply in love with him. She longed to take their friendship to the next level, but she didn't know how to express her feelings to him. Unfortunately, she couldn't confide in her parents about her relationship with Xavier, fearing they might not understand.

One day, Chloe asked Xavier about his family, and he opened up about his divorced mother. However, he seemed hesitant to discuss his father, and Chloe sensed a hint of pain in his eyes. "I'd rather not talk about my dad," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Despite the mystery surrounding his family, Xavier decided to introduce Chloe to his mother. As they visited his home, Chloe was warmly received by Xavier's mother, who instantly took a liking to her. However, things were different with Xavier's little sister, Emma. Emma seemed to despise Chloe, often making snide comments behind her back.

"Of all the girls in Olives, how did you end up befriending her?" Emma would say to Xavier, her voice laced with disdain. "What's so special about her?" Emma's words would sting, but Chloe tried to brush them off, focusing on her blossoming feelings for Xavier.

As the days went by, Chloe found herself caught between her growing love for Xavier and the tension with his sister. She wondered if she could ever win Emma over or if Xavier's family would ever accept her as a part of their lives.

Xavier's mother, Mrs. Thompson, was a kind-hearted woman who had always wanted the best for her children. She saw the way Xavier looked at Chloe and knew that her son was smitten. However, Emma's behavior concerned her, and she wasn't sure how to address the issue
"Xavier, what's going on between you and your sister?" Mrs. Thompson asked one day, her voice gentle but firm. "Why does Emma seem so opposed to Chloe?"

Xavier sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I don't know, Mom. Emma's always been protective of me, but this is different. I think she's just worried I'll get hurt."

Mrs. Thompson nodded, her eyes filled with understanding. "We'll talk to Emma, okay? Maybe we can help her see things from a different perspective."

*CHAPTER 1*

The moment Chloe walked into the cafe, she didn't expect to see him there, but there he was, seated at a small table by the window, sipping on a latte. Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, they were locked in a gaze. It's been years, Chloe thought, "How is he here, or are my eyes deceiving me?" She adjusted herself, took her eyes off him to focus on the bartender to get her coffee, pretending not to see him. When, all of a sudden, after being attended to, she turned, and there he was, standing right in front of her. Her heart raced, pounding so hard. He asked, "Do I know you? Your face looks familiar," in the calmest tone ever. Chloe was taken aback, amazed at the words he uttered, but only nodded slightly, instantly dropped the cup of caffeine she was holding, and left.

*Years Back*

Chloe was a girl who wanted to live her life to the fullest and enjoy every moment a teenager has. She was seated, reading about love, romance, and affectionate stories, hoping and dreaming of finding herself in the arms of an amazing partner in her near future. As the only child of Mr. Clerk Cants and Mrs. Emily, she was raised and nurtured with love, care, and everything she ever wanted was given to her without a doubt.

However, a time came when Mr. Clerk Cants, her father and a business opportunist, had to deal with certain work conditions that dropped his yearnings and couldn't meet up to the expectations of his family anymore. This affected his full-term services as the breadwinner of the family, while Mrs. Emily, his wife, worked as a librarian's attendant, hoping to aid support for the family's needs. Things continued that way until a new neighbor came next door.

Chloe was outside, dressed for school with her bag on, wearing her school uniform and sporting a blonde ponytail. As she stepped out of her house, she spotted a dog barking at her, though the dog seemed like a cute little puppy. She was intrigued as she stood there for a moment, a bit scared. Then she heard a voice, "Stop, Bruno! You shouldn't bark at just anyone." He turned to look at Chloe and said, "Oh, hey, pretty one!" with a smile. Chloe gazed into his eyes; his smile was shocking and sent shivers down her spine at the same time. In that moment, she felt she was so close, but didn't understand what she was close to or how she felt.

The guy, Xavier, went closer to her, snapped his fingers to get her attention, and said, "Forgive me, little miss. My dog must have caused you a lot of trouble." His dog went to him, and he carried it up. Chloe replied, "Oh, no, he's a sweet dog. Don't worry." For a moment, Xavier turned to look at his dog again, digging his hand into the dog's puffy hair, and the dog giggled, trying to lick his face. Xavier chuckled, "Hey, Bruno, you lack some shame." He looked at Chloe again and said, "So..."

Just in time, the school bus Chloe was waiting for arrived, and she had to leave, bidding Xavier a goodbye. Before he could utter a word, she was already on the bus, and he looked at his dog again, uttering, "I couldn't even ask her what her name was." He shrugged and continued playing with his dog.

On the other side, Chloe couldn't keep her mind off what had happened earlier. Questions swirled in her head: "Who is this guy? What was he doing with a dog close to my apartment? A guy this handsome in Olives... He must be from a different world!!!
