Grandparents Day: Nonagenarian begs FG for free medical care, shelter

A nonagenarian, Mrs Mabel Ojie, has called on the Federal Government to pass legislation to provide free medical care, housing and institutional support for elderly citizens across the country.

Ojie, 91-year-old great-grandmother made the call on Tuesday in Abuja during an awareness walk organised by the Christian Centre for Mission, Family and Leadership Awareness (CEMFLED) to mark the 2026 International Grandparents Day.

Gov. Idris appoints Sagiru Muhammad as Protocol Affairs DG

Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, has approved the appointment of Sagiru Haliru-Muhammad as the Director-General (DG) of the Directorate of Protocol Affairs.

The appointment takes effect from Sept. 2, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala- Tafida, and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

The National Public Relations Officer oft the NCS, DCC Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the Joint Security News Briefing by security and law enforcement agencies.

Maiwada said the revenue comprised N784.66 billion generated in July and N595.58 billion collected in August.
