The latest rate released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the NFEM exchange rate stood at ₦1,326.3014/$ on Monday, September 14. The official rate is determined from the volume-weighted average of transactions conducted in the market.
In the parallel market, market trackers quoted the dollar at approximately ₦1,385 for buying and ₦1,410 for selling on Tuesday.
However, rates in the parallel market may differ depending on the dealer, location and size of the transaction.
At the ₦1,410 parallel-market selling rate, the dollar commands a premium of about ₦83.70 over the latest official NFEM rate of ₦1,326.30.
At the prevailing parallel-market rate, a buyer seeking $100 would require about ₦141,000, while $1,000 would cost approximately ₦1.41 million.
The naira has continued to show relative stability at the official foreign exchange window in recent trading sessions, with CBN data putting the currency at ₦1,326.30/$ as of September 14.
Meanwhile, the disparity between the official and parallel markets continues to reflect variations in dollar supply, demand and accessibility across the two segments.
Exchange rates could change during the day as liquidity conditions and demand for foreign currency fluctuate.
For September 15, the latest available figures therefore place the dollar at approximately ₦1,326.30/$ at NFEM and between ₦1,385 and ₦1,410/$ in the parallel market.
