Dear Hon. Bishop Comrade Tina Eriye Izontimi,
Following due consideration and in recognition of your commitment, capacity, leadership qualities and willingness to contribute to the growth and development of the South South Progressive Youth Movement (SS-PYM), the National Leadership is pleased to formally appoint you as: NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF WOMEN MOBILISATION.

This appointment takes effect from the date of this letter.

In this capacity, you shall work under the direction of the National Leadership and be responsible for coordinating and strengthening the participation, mobilisation and engagement of women across the six South-South states and other relevant structures of the Movement.

Your responsibilities shall include:
Coordinating women mobilisation activities and initiatives of SS-PYM across the South-South region;

1.Developing strategies for increased participation and inclusion of women in the programmes and activities of the Movement;

2. Building effective networks with women leaders, organisations, community groups and other relevant stakeholders;

3. Supporting the establishment and strengthening of women structures at state and local government levels

4. Mobilising women for approved programmes, conferences, consultations, campaigns and other official activities of SS-PYM;

5. Promoting the ideals, programmes and objectives of the Movement among women and communities;

6. Working closely with State Coordinators and other National Officers to strengthen women participation within SS-PYM; and

7. Performing any other duties that may be assigned by the National Convener or appropriate authority of the Movement.

The National Leadership expects you to discharge this responsibility with integrity, discipline, loyalty, professionalism, dedication and discretion, while upholding the dignity and reputation of the Movement.

You are encouraged to work collaboratively with the National Executive Council, State Coordinators, women leaders and other relevant structures towards advancing the core objectives of Empowerment, Development, Unity and Leadership across the South-South region.

This appointment is a call to service and leadership, and we trust that you will bring your experience, commitment and organisational capacity to bear in advancing the objectives of SS-PYM.

AKSG COMMENDS CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS FOR RELIEF DONATION TO FLOOD VICTIMS

…Assures Equitable, Transparent Distribution of Relief Materials to Affected Families

The Akwa Ibom State Government has received a major humanitarian intervention from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, comprising assorted food and non-food relief materials for distribution to families affected by the recent flood disasters across the State.

Receiving the items on behalf of the State government at the formal handover ceremony held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency office in Uyo, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, commended the Church for its demonstration of love and compassion towards vulnerable residents affected by the disaster.

Princess Ibanga described the donation as a significant complement to the State Government’s ongoing humanitarian response to the flood disaster, noting that the gesture further underscored the Church’s commitment to humanitarian service and its growing partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The Commissioner recalled that the Church had, a few months ago, donated wheelchairs and walking aids to the State and brought technicians from Uganda to train local personnel in the assembly and maintenance of the mobility devices.

She also commended the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), under the coordination of the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, for painstakingly collecting and collating data on affected persons and communities, which, he said, enabled the Church to identify areas of need and channel its intervention appropriately.

The Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Church for complementing the State Government’s humanitarian efforts and prayed for the continued strengthening of the partnership for the benefit of vulnerable citizens.

The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Joseph George Esidem, who stood in for the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi recalled that several parts of the State had recently experienced flooding, resulting in damage to homes, businesses, farmlands and crops, as well as disruption of livelihoods.
He commended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for responding to the plight of affected families and assured that SEMA, in collaboration with NEMA, would ensure the relief materials were distributed equitably, transparently and to genuine victims of the disaster.

Speaking during the handover, a representative of the Africa West Area Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Christian Chibundu, said the Church decided to reach out to flood victims because its faith teaches love, compassion and service to humanity.

Elder Chibundu said the donation reflected the Church’s commitment to following the example of Jesus Christ and living according to biblical teachings. He noted that the recent flooding had left many families vulnerable and without adequate food, shelter and other basic necessities, stressing that the intervention was intended to bring relief, comfort, encouragement and renewed strength to affected families. He recalled the Church’s recent donation of wheelchairs and walking aids to the State and other parts of the country, describing such interventions as evidence of the organisation’s commitment to partnership and collaboration with government and communities.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eno Akpan, described the donation as a practical demonstration of love and compassion. She appreciated the Church for its continued humanitarian interventions in partnership with the Ministry and commended Governor Eno for providing the leadership and enabling environment for such partnerships to thrive.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, a flood victim, Mr. Idongesit Dan, expressed gratitude to the Church for coming to their aid and appreciated the State Government for its continued concern for families affected by the disaster.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor; Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters; Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Apostle Chris Nyong; and State Statistician-General, Mr. Uduak Isaac.

The items donated by the Church include 1,500 bags of 25kg rice, beans, garri, bags of corn, cartons of noodles, 1,000 gallons of vegetable oil, sugar, salt, seasoning cubes, tomato and pepper mix, as well as mosquito nets, sanitary pads, detergents, table soaps, blankets and toilet rolls.

In attendance at the ceremony were; officials of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim; a Director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Affiong Nkom; Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Prince Nsikanabasi Umoekpo; officials of the Bulk Purchase Agency, SEMA and NEMA; the Executive Secretary, Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Eno Attah; representatives of the Ministry of Information; community leaders and development partners.

AHEAD OF PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSIONING

The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, on Sunday led a high-level delegation comprising members of the State Executive Council, project teams and technical personnel on an extensive inspection of major infrastructure projects scheduled for commissioning by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during his expected visit to the state next month.

The inspection formed part of the state government's preparations for activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State and is aimed at ensuring that projects earmarked for commissioning meet the required standards of quality, functionality and readiness.

The exercise also reflects the administration's emphasis on project completion, quality assurance, accountability and value for public expenditure under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno and the state's ARISE Agenda.

VICTOR ATTAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The inspection commenced at the Victor Attah International Airport, where the delegation assessed the newly completed Terminal Building and the airport's modern Clinic.

The clinic is designed to provide prompt medical services to airport users, personnel and surrounding communities, strengthening the airport's emergency-response capacity and broader public-health support infrastructure.

The team subsequently inspected the Aviation Village, a strategic housing development intended to provide accommodation for aviation personnel while supporting the continued expansion of the state's aviation ecosystem.

NSIT ATAI–OKOBO ROAD
The delegation also inspected the Nsit Atai–Okobo Road, an important inter-local-government road corridor expected to improve connectivity, facilitate movement of people and goods, and strengthen economic interaction between communities.

Beyond transportation, improved road connectivity is expected to support agricultural commerce, access to markets and broader rural-urban integration.

NEW RING ROAD PROJECT
A major focus of the inspection was the New Ring Road, connecting Idoro in Uyo with Ikot Ada Idem in Ibiono Ibom.

The strategic road project traverses communities across Uyo, Ikono and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas and is designed to improve intra-city and inter-community mobility while helping to reduce pressure on existing routes within the Uyo metropolitan area.

The project is also expected to open up new areas for residential development, commercial activity and investment while reducing travel time across connected communities.

AKWA GIS BUILDING
The delegation further inspected the AKWA GIS Building, a major digital infrastructure project supporting land administration and geographic information management in the state.

The facility forms part of the state's efforts to modernise land administration, improve transparency, enhance administrative efficiency and create a more predictable environment for investors and property stakeholders.

ARISE PALM RESORT
The inspection tour concluded at the ARISE Palm Resort, one of the flagship tourism and hospitality projects of the administration.

The delegation reviewed ongoing work at the resort and its adjoining Banquet Hall, which are being developed to strengthen Akwa Ibom's capacity to host conferences, tourism activities, hospitality events and other major engagements.

The project is also positioned as part of the state's broader strategy to expand its tourism economy and attract investment into the hospitality sector.

RESOLUTIONS OF THE NEC, BOARD OF TRUSTEES & STATE COORDINATORS’ STRATEGIC MEETING

Held on Saturday, 15th August 2026
The South South Progressive Youth Movement (SSPYM) held a strategic meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT), and State Coordinators on Saturday, 15th August 2026.

The meeting, convened under the leadership of the National Convener, Okuku (Apostle) Nelson Joseph Hensley, deliberated extensively on critical issues concerning the organizational expansion, grassroots consolidation, leadership development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic visibility of SSPYM across the South-South region.

Following robust deliberations, the meeting adopted the following resolutions:

1. GRASSROOTS CONSOLIDATION
All State Coordinators are hereby directed to immediately compile, verify, and submit the official structure and membership lists of SSPYM across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) within their respective states.
This is aimed at ensuring that SSPYM develops a functional, credible, and properly documented presence in every LGA and community across the six South-South states.

2. STRATEGIC STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
State Coordinators are mandated to commence structured engagement with relevant stakeholders, political leaders, community leaders, youth organizations, women groups, and other strategic partners within their respective states.

Such engagements should promote the ideals of youth inclusion, empowerment, good governance, development, leadership participation, and regional advancement, while strengthening SSPYM's network and institutional relationships.

3. INAUGURATION OF STATE & LGA EXECUTIVE STRUCTURES
State Coordinators are directed to immediately constitute State Inauguration Committees and commence preparations for the formal inauguration of State and LGA Executive Structures.

The objective is to establish functional leadership structures that are organized, accountable, representative, and capable of effectively implementing the programmes and policies of SSPYM at the grassroots.

4. ORGANIZATIONAL DISCIPLINE & ACCOUNTABILITY
All National, State and LGA officers are expected to operate in accordance with the organization's approved policies, directives and leadership structure.

State Coordinators are further encouraged to maintain accurate records, regular communication, transparent reporting, and effective coordination with the National Secretariat.

5. REGIONAL UNITY & DEVELOPMENT
The meeting reaffirmed SSPYM's commitment to building a united, progressive, development-conscious and politically enlightened South-South youth constituency, with young people positioned as active participants in governance, economic development and nation-building.

The Movement will continue to pursue strategic partnerships and initiatives that advance youth empowerment, capacity development, entrepreneurship, social inclusion and sustainable development across the region.

DIRECTIVE
All State Coordinators are expected to treat these resolutions as strategic directives and commence implementation immediately. Progress reports are to be communicated to the National Secretariat as required.

SSPYM remains committed to building structures, empowering people and creating opportunities for a stronger and more prosperous South-South.
