🇳🇬 HAVE WE ALREADY FORGOTTEN NNAMDI KANU?
In a country where public attention moves from one headline to another within days, one question deserves to be asked: Have Nigerians already forgotten about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu?
Kanu remains in custody at the Sokoto Correctional Centre after being sentenced to life imprisonment in 2025. His case continues through the legal process, while calls for his release remain part of the national conversation.
Peter Obi has publicly maintained that there is no justification for Kanu's continued detention and has called for his release.
For his supporters, Nnamdi Kanu is a freedom fighter and a symbol of a struggle for self-determination. Others strongly disagree with his methods and the political objectives of IPOB. But regardless of where anyone stands, his case should not disappear from the national conversation simply because the cameras have moved elsewhere.
A man's freedom, his trial, his rights and the questions surrounding his case should not become yesterday's news.
Where are the voices that once demanded answers?
Where are the people who once spoke loudly about his detention?
Where is the sustained public conversation?
You may disagree with Nnamdi Kanu. You may disagree with IPOB. You may even disagree with his political ideology. But forgetting a human being in detention is not the same thing as resolving the issues surrounding his case.
Nigeria must continue to have honest conversations about justice, due process, national unity, security and the grievances that continue to fuel tensions in the South-East.
Nnamdi Kanu should not become a forgotten headline.
🇳🇬 Nigeria must not lose its conscience simply because the cameras have moved on.
