ICPC GRILLS EKITI APC HOUSE OF REPS CANDIDATE, TOYIN OKORO OVER ALLEGED MULTI-MILLION NAIRA FRAUD, ABUSE OF OFFICE

The political atmosphere in Ekiti State took a dramatic twist on Thursday as operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) grilled Hon. Toyin Okoro,the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ise-Orun/Ikere/Ekiti Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, over alleged fraud, conflict of interest and abuse of public office.

Okoro, who previously served as Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, *Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas*, was summoned to the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

*HOW HE WAS QUESTIONED*

According to impeccable sources at the ICPC, the politician arrived at the Commission’s headquarters at about 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2026, following a formal invitation letter dated September 7, 2026, and signed by *Mr. Oshinyemi Oluwaseun*, Head of Special Duty Team, on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission.

TheCable reports that the embattled APC chieftain waited for about 30 minutes at the reception before he was ushered into an interrogation room at about 2:40 pm, where a crack team of investigators interrogated him for over two hours before granting him administrative bail at about 5:00 pm.

He was, however, directed to return at a later date for further interrogation as investigation continues.

The invitation notice sighted by our correspondent reads in part:

> “Pursuant to Section 28 & 40 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, you are kindly required to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja on 17th September 2026 by 10am prompt. Additionally, you may wish to come with a lawyer or any individual of your choice.”

THE ALLEGATIONS

The ICPC is investigating Okoro for alleged gross violation of the Corrupt Practices Act and public service regulations.

Specifically, the Commission accused him of:

1. Operating a private company while still in public service as Senior Legislative Aide at the National Assembly, contrary to extant public service rules and code of conduct for public officers.

2. Using his privileged position and influence as a public servant to secure lucrative public contracts* for his private company from federal parastatals and agencies including the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)*, among others.

3. Falsification and backdating of his resignation letter* in a bid to cover up and defend his actions when the alleged infractions were reported to anti-graft agencies.

4. Illegally receiving salaries, emoluments and allowances* from the National Assembly while serving as the beneficial owner and director of the private company.

5. Perjury and false declaration under oath* in his submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), based on contradictory evidence obtained from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the National Assembly Service Commission.

As at the time of filing this report, Hon. Toyin Okoro is yet to issue any official statement or publicly respond to the weighty allegations levelled against him by the anti-corruption agency.

Political observers in Ekiti State say the development may throw the APC's preparation for the 2027 Ise-Orun/Ikere/Ekiti Federal Constituency contest into uncertainty.

2027 RACE SHAKY? ICPC GRILLS EKITI APC REPS CANDIDATE TOYIN OKORO OVER ALLEGED MULTI-MILLION NAIRA FRAUD

Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have interrogated Hon. Toyin Okoro, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ise/Orun/Ikere/Ekiti Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, over alleged fraud and abuse of office.

The agency accused him of operating a private company while serving as an SLA at the National Assembly, contrary to public service rules. He was also alleged to have used his position as a public servant to secure public contracts for the private company from agencies including the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), and NASENI.

It was further alleged that when the matter was reported to anti-graft agencies, Okoro falsified and backdated his resignation letter to defend his actions.

Other allegations include receiving salaries and allowances from the National Assembly while serving as the beneficial owner of the company, and lying under oath in his submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), based on evidence from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the National Assembly.

As of the time of filing this report, Okoro is yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

FORMER APC TREASURER HOSPITALISED AFTER ALLEGED ATTACK IN UGHELLI

Chief Edewor Akpedafe, former APC Treasurer and Secretary-General of Uwheru Kingdom, is receiving treatment at the Central Hospital, Ughelli, after he was allegedly assaulted by suspected political thugs during a meeting in Delta State.

ALLEGED ATTACK DURING PEACE MEETING
The incident occurred at the Ughelli residence of Olorogun Miller Uloho, Chairman of the Ughelli North LGA Advisory Committee. The meeting was convened to mediate a land dispute over an oil facility between Evwreni Kingdom (Unenurhie) and Uwheru Kingdom.

A source alleged that two political leaders arrived with about 50 persons in three Sienna buses and two mobile policemen. Akpedafe, who represented Uwheru Kingdom, was reportedly beaten at the venue, dragged into a vehicle, and assaulted further. The policemen were also accused of hitting him with their rifle butts.

ASSAULT ALLEGEDLY CONTINUED AT LGA SECRETARIAT
The former party chieftain was allegedly taken to the Ughelli North LGA Secretariat where the beating continued. His condition worsened, and he was later taken to the office of the Area Commander, ACP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, who ordered that he be rushed to hospital.

REACTIONS AND CONCERNS
The attack has drawn criticism within Uwheru community and political circles in Ughelli, as it occurred during a dialogue meant to resolve conflict peacefully.

As of press time, the identities of those involved could not be independently confirmed. Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident.

ARISE HONOURED AS "ICON OF DEMOCRACY" IN EKITI, SAYS DEMOCRACY STILL NIGERIA'S BEST OPTION

“Our future for excellence will certainly be shaped by adherence to democratic tenets as guaranteed by the rule of law.”

“We cannot demand good democracy while selling our votes. We cannot demand responsible politicians while rewarding political opportunism,” Arise concluded.
