🟡 Why the Sun and Moon Live in the Sky – A Nigerian Folktale 🌙
Long, long ago…
The Sun and Moon were not in the sky.
They lived right here on Earth, just like people.
Sun was strong and full of energy.
Moon was calm, gentle, and graceful.
They were husband and wife—and they loved hosting visitors.
One day, Sun said to his friend Water,
“Come visit our home!”
But Water replied,
“I would love to… but your house may not be big enough for me. I never travel alone—I come with all my people.”
Sun didn’t mind.
He built a massive house, wide and tall, for Water and his watery guests.
Then he proudly told Moon,
“We’re ready. Let’s welcome him.”
The day Water arrived… he brought frogs, fish, crocodiles, crabs, turtles—every sea creature you can imagine.
They flowed into the house.
First, ankle-deep.
Then waist-deep.
Then neck-deep.
Sun and Moon climbed to the rooftop…
But Water kept rising.
At last, Sun said to Moon,
“We can’t live here anymore. Let’s rise—up, up—where Water can never reach us.”
And so, they did.
That’s why today, when you look up,
You’ll see the Sun shining brightly by day,
And the Moon following quietly by night.
Because once… they lived on Earth.
But now, they live in the sky—together, forever.
✨ Moral of the Story:
Not all friends can share the same space.
Even with the best intentions, we sometimes need to rise above what overwhelms us.
And sometimes, the best place to find peace… is somewhere higher.
