Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Commissions Fresh Food Hub in Agege

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday commissioned the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Pen Cinema, Agege, as part of efforts by his administration to improve food distribution and strengthen food security across the state.

The modern facility, built on about 7,000 square metres, is designed to make the movement of food from farmers and suppliers to communities across Lagos more organised and efficient.

The hub provides space for hundreds of traders and features dry and cold storage facilities, a dedicated seafood section, parking areas and electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

The facility also brings farmers, traders, retailers, institutional buyers and consumers together within a more organised food distribution system.

Agege is one of the middle-level hubs in Lagos’ wider food distribution network and is supplied by the Central Food Security and Logistics Hub at Ketu-Ereyun. Together with other hubs, including Mushin, the initiative is aimed at bringing food distribution closer to residents and strengthening food security across Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the development represents another step towards building a more efficient and resilient food supply chain that benefits farmers, traders and consumers across the state.

Agege LG Chairman Assures Residents of Action on Major Road Challenges

The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, has assured residents that his administration is actively addressing the challenges affecting the Okekoto–Alfa Nla axis, Akilo Road, and the Agege Motor Road leading to Ilezik.

In a public address, Obasa acknowledged the difficulties and inconveniences caused by the poor condition of the roads, noting that he understands the frustrations of residents, traders, motorists, and other road users who depend on them daily.

According to the council chairman, the road challenges are largely linked to underlying drainage and infrastructure deficiencies that require coordinated intervention from both the local and Lagos State governments. He explained that rehabilitation projects of such magnitude demand careful planning, technical coordination, and substantial investment.

Obasa stated that while palliative measures are currently being implemented to improve accessibility on the affected routes, the administration’s primary focus remains on delivering lasting infrastructural solutions that will provide long-term relief to residents and commuters.

He further disclosed that the local government is working closely with the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to facilitate the necessary interventions and ensure the roads receive the attention they require.

The chairman appealed to residents for patience, understanding, and continued cooperation as efforts to address the challenges progress. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the affected roads are rehabilitated to standards befitting the community.

Obasa also assured residents that the government remains dedicated to improving infrastructure across Agege and pledged that the concerns of the people would continue to receive priority attention.
