Over the years, the sole market square in Afor has been struggling to maintain a satisfactory level of business activity, particularly in terms of providing commodities for purchase to residents of Amesi. Despite being the only functioning market in Amesi, the business premises and operations remain subpar.
This issue not only affects the Afor market but also the small-scale businesses in the surrounding area, which struggle to operate at a high level due to concerns about selling out. The business activity at the market square is remarkably low and poor. As a result, locals, including myself, often prefer to visit neighboring town markets to purchase essential items.
This is understandable, given that the desired products are frequently unavailable at the Afor market or nearby shops. It is worth noting that Amesi is a small, sparsely populated geographical area, which may contribute to the market's underperformance. Nevertheless, there is a pressing need to enhance the Afor market's standards.
The market's strategic location, with a bank and fuel station nearby, and its situating on a federal road, make it an ideal site for fostering growth. Currently, ongoing development work and plans to establish a daily market are underway, which is a crucial step towards revitalizing the Afor market and supporting small-scale businesses.
The daily market concept is expected to increase market visibility, given its prime location. It is imperative that the community takes responsibility for supporting the local businesses by patronizing them, overcoming any perceived inferiority complex, and investing in the growth of Afor by establishing businesses there. This collective effort will be instrumental in fostering the market's growth and development.
All Thanks to the executive council of AMESI IMPROVEMENT UNION (AIU) MATER for their good concerns over the market and also to the Market Committee members headed by Nze Emmanuel Ezeuchegbu (Ofia) Ofia Manuel Ezeuchegbu
