I have been reading posts by some people claiming that Amb Ihunwo Chijioke said he has joined the Rainbow Coalition.

Granted, he did say that. But was that the only thing he said during the interview?

Would he have said anything differently if he wanted to debunk the allegation that he only followed Governor Siminalayi Fubara because of money and would abandon him now that things are no longer rosy?

If he had publicly declared that he would not join the Governor in the Rainbow Coalition, wouldn’t these same critics have celebrated it as proof that he only stood with Governor Fubara for personal gain?

Let us not forget that this is the same Governor who gave him the rare opportunity to serve first as Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairman and later as the elected Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area before the Supreme Court judgment of Friday, 28 February 2025, annulled the Saturday, 5 October 2024 local government election.

What stood out to me was not merely that he said he would attend a Rainbow Coalition meeting. It was that he openly reaffirmed that his support for Governor Fubara remains 100%. He made it clear that he is following the Governor’s direction and would only attend a Rainbow Coalition meeting brokered and endorsed by Governor Fubara—not just any meeting.

Equally important was his declaration that he is not desperate for power or political office. He acknowledged that he is still young and that even if he remains out of public office for eight years, politics will still be there when the time is right.

Those who genuinely listened to the interview heard a message of loyalty, patience, and political maturity. Those who only wanted a headline heard what suited their narrative.
