The Nigerian Government commissioned two bespoke versions of the Mercedes-Benz 600 during the General Gowon era from the Specially configured Mercedes Benz Sindelfingen, West Germany production assembly plant. The 600 Pullman was one of the top-rated and most expensive cars of its time. A total of 2,677 units of the Mercedes-Benz 600 (W100 series) were produced between 1964 and 1981, comprising various saloon and limousine configurations. Of this total, only 304 to 428 were the specific Pullman limousine variants, including 4-door, 6-door, and 59 Landaulet models, favored by world leaders. The production breakdown of the Mercedes-Benz 600 Series is as follows: Total 600 Series: 2,677. Pullman Limousines (Total): approximately 304–428. Landaulet (Convertible) Pullman: 59. 6-Door Pullman: 124. These vehicles were hand-built, featuring advanced hydraulic systems for doors, windows, and seats, which contributed to their popularity among dictators, royalty, and celebrities. The production process was labor-intensive, requiring 54 working days to hand-make one unit at the Sindelfingen, Germany production assembly plant. Each vehicle was hand-assembled by a technician.
