A boy loved playing with stones. One afternoon, he threw one just for fun. It flew across the yard and struck his father’s fowl. The bird dropped dêãd instantly. 🙆🏼♂️
He froze. He thought he was alone. But his sister had been standing behind him, watching everything.
She walked up with a smile. “Give me #1000 and I won’t tell Dad.”
“I don’t have money,” he pleaded. “Please don’t tell him. He’ll beat me.”
The next day, Dad asked the sister to wash the plates and sweep the compound.
“Dad, my brother said he’ll do it,” she replied.
She turned to him. “You heard Dad. Wash the plates and sweep the compound… or else, don’t forget you kiïled a fowl 🐔.”
Without a word, he washed the plates and swept the compound.
The following morning, Dad told her to fetch water and fill the drums.
“Dad, my brother said he’ll do it,” she said again.
She found him. “Remember that fowl? 🐔 Fill these drums with water or else…”
So he drew water and filled the drums.
That evening, Dad sent her to the market for food items.
“Dad, my brother said he’ll go,” she said.
Again she came to him: “Don’t forget the fowl is still dêãd. Go to the market and buy the food or else…” 🤷🏻♀️
The boy stood up with tears in his eyes. He walked past his sister, went into the house, and found his father sitting there. He knelt down and cried:
“Dad, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me. I killed your fowl. It wasn’t on purpose. Please, I’m sorry.”
His father looked at him and said:
“My son, the day you kïiled the fowl, I was at the window watching everything that happened.
Your sister made you her slave because you wouldn’t come to me to confess and apologize.
But now that you have, you’re free. She can no longer use you.” 🙏🏾
*MORAL:*
Each time we sin, God sees us. We think we’re hiding, but He’s already at the window.
Shame and the enemy will use our secrets to enslave us — _“Remember that fowl, or else…”_
But confession isn’t to inform God. It’s to free us. The moment we own up, the blackmail ends.
_“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.” – 1 John 1:9_
