During one of my night prayers, I was deep with the Holy One in prayer, tongues flowing, heart burning, and suddenly everything around me began to fade into a holy silence. Then suddenly… I felt it.
Not fear. Not noise.
A presence.
It was subtle, almost like a whisper brushing past my spirit. If I wasn’t attentive, I would have missed it. But before I could even process it fully,
The dog in our compound exploded into barking.
Not the casual, playful bark.
This was sharp. Aggressive. Persistent.
I paused.
“Maybe someone is passing,” I thought.
But no footsteps.
No voices.
No movement.
Just silence… and the dog barking into what seemed like nothing.
For a few minutes, it continued. Then suddenly, it stopped.
And in that moment, a question pierced through my heart:
How can a dog be this sensitive… and many believers can't even pick a jerk in the spirit?
That animal picked something.
Something I only barely discerned in the spirit.
It didn’t pray.
It didn’t fast.
It didn’t speak in tongues.
Yet it reacted.
And I stood there… a believer, filled with the Holy Spirit… still trying to understand.
That was when it hit me like fire:
“Sensitivity is not a gift you claim, it is a state you train”.
If a dog, by mere instinct, can respond to unseen movements…
How much more a believer who carries the Spirit of God?
But here is the painful truth, many of us are spiritually alive, but functionally insensitive.
We shout in prayer, but miss divine signals.
We speak in tongues, but ignore spiritual atmospheres.
We carry power, but lack perception.
That night changed me.
I didn’t just pray, I began to desire accuracy.
I didn’t just seek power, I began to hunger for sensitivity.
Because what is power… without perception?
Here is the lessons:
Your greatest advantage as a believer is not activity, it is sensitivity.
The Spirit of God in you is not silent, you are just not always trained to pick His signals.
Spiritual discernment is developed in the place of consistency, stillness, and obedience.
If a dog can react to the unseen…
You were designed to DISCERN it, UNDERSTAND it, and TAKE AUTHORITY over it.
Train your spirit.
Stay longer in prayer.
Become more still.
Pay attention to subtle nudges.
Because in the realm of the Spirit,
it is not the loudest that wins…
it is the most sensitive.
